Can someone please tell me the correct way to run the cooling lines from my 700R4 to the radiator which have the side Inlet and Outlet ports and then to an external transmission cooler in front of that and back the transmission please thank you

Interesting, the transmission cooler connections on your radiator come out the side of the tank. I've never seen one like that. Can you post us a photo?

I usually totally bypass the radiator system and plumb directly into the aux cooler....

Why heat the oil up in the radiator to then try and cool it in the aux cooler?

Block to fitting ports in the radiator...

Just my opinion...

No the radiator helps cool it down that's why it was run there in the first place. Then the aux. cools it down some more

I work at a transmission shop and we bypass the radiator and go straight out to the auxiliary cooler. The transmission coolers we use have a bypass that allows the fluid to reach operating temperature by running through only two channels in the cooler. Once it's warmed up the entire cooler is used.

Doesn't matter how you run the lines as long as it stay's below 200* according to GM. If it starts getting over 200* it starts breaking down the fluid and in turn starts breaking down the transmission. Doesn't matter which line is return because it's just a loop. The trans pump's the fluid out one and in the other so it don't matter.

That is interesting. Do you know what the bypass temperatures are? Is there a part number I could research? Thanks in advance for the information.

The cooler is a Hayden By-Pass Transmission Cooler. Not sure what temperatures it opens at. On most newer trucks we can access transmission data with a scanner. There's usually a transmission temperature line and most of them sit around 190°. We've had customers who tow with diesel truck say that the temp gauge never exceed 215° when pulling a heavy load up a large grade. I hope the info helps.

Here's how I routed mine but I didn't count on the dirt dobbers plugging the output line from the trans. I haven't tested it yet to see if the cooked fluid hurt the trans. I agree with Andy on the routing.

Install one of these just in front of your AUX cooler. This will prevent the fluid from being cooled until it reaches 180 degrees ( good for all weather environments, but especially for cold ones )...

If I lived further north I would add this to mine.

I drove my truck this morning and was watching my temp on the transmission. It stayed at 175* the whole time it was 33* outside. I like it like that. The motor temp was 200*

Would you put the temp sensor in the output line leaving the trans? And also if you use a large cooler why wouldn't you bypass the radiator so that the trans wouldn't add heat to the engine? Especially if using the thermostat like above.

I have the temp senor in the pan of my 64 SS Impala just because it was the easiest place to put it. But GM also puts the temp probe in the pan also on the newer electric transmissions as in my 4L80E. I know because I have it hooked up and use it all the time in my 71 C-10.
My thinking is as long as I know the total degree of the fluid after it's been through the transmission and it's less than 200* as GM likes it to be I'm good.
If the temp starts climbing I know something is wrong.

As far as the aux cooler goes yes if you can get one big enough to handle it on it's own then go for it. I had limited space for mine so it is what it is and as far adding heat if everything is working then it shouldn't add muh of any heat.

On the 700 trans I purchased from Bow Tie Overdrive years ago they had it set up so the sensor is in the pan. Generally reads around 180*. As stated before running a Hayden cooler with an RV application. Plumbed to the radiator and then aux cooler on the way back to the trans.

I have an aluminum deep finned pan and was worried that it might give a false low reading but it would be the easiest place to put one.
