Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

I started the process of rebuilding my rear drums this weekend and haven't been able to find some gaskets that I need. I took the backing plate off and pulled the axle out (Dana 44) and found that the bearings and seals have been replaced previously and are in good shape so I will be leaving them as-is, but there was a gasket between the axle tube and the backing plate and the backing plate and the axle retainer (gasket on both sides of backing plate). Where do I buy these gaskets? I've been searching all over the internet and have not been able to find them yet.

The more work I do with the rear end of this truck, the more I wish it would have been a coil spring truck with a 12 bolt as it seems leaf spring trucks with Dana 44's are not very common and therefore hard to find parts. Here's a picture of my backing plate for the gasket shape reference.

Might be faster to make some.
Find some sheets in the right thickness and use a small ballpeen hammer to outline the holes. Use a razor blade to cut with.
I’ve found gasket sheets at the local parts emporium.

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

I have run into the same, planning to do some major brake work myself. I know if I have to cut them myself its both time consuming and would be needing the right material and thickness.

Tedious to say the least, hope to get some help finding these.

Looks like fel pro 13800, it may or may not be, you will have to look into yourself.
Do you not use the internet? Google?
I typed in “Dana 44 axle flange gasket”

That looks right for the OP application. Looked up Felpros website for 2 WD, no luck for me.

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

I did the same, went to Felpro's website and got nothing but I'm not surprised. Who knows how many vehicles have Dana 44's under them. I'm going to measure my axle flange ID tomorrow night to see if it matches the 2-3/32" indicated on Summit's website.

Now I just have to find the right brake cables...

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

I ended up buying the Felpro 13800's. I found them on another website which had different dimensions on it, so not sure what to believe so I ended up paying like $6 on Amazon for 4 of them. If they're wrong, not a big deal for $6. I should have soon and can find out if they're right.

I've never heard of backing plate gaskets....I'm not sure what purpose they would serve...

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

They were even used on 2 wd trucks including both front and rear. Most auto parts stores come up with the aluminum gaskets for the Dana 60 axle shafts.

Hard to find for sure. I looked through Rock Autos site and found nothing for the front of my C20 2wd. Oh yeah, they are there.

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

Well the Felpro 13800's showed up and were not what I expected and did not fit. They are actually a foam seal, not a paper gasket. You can't see from the picture, but the ID of the gasket is too small. Also the holes don't line up. So I will just use RTV gasket maker to seal them up.

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

what exactly are you trying to seal in or out? i guess i don't understand considering there is a gap all the way around the drum/back plate.

Seals out Dirt, Seals in broken leaking wheel cylinder so it goes all over your brake shoes.

Would it matter? It would for proper alignment of brake shoes to drum for one. Ever so slightly.

Re: Where to buy backing plate gaskets?

I was going to put on new gaskets because they were there when I took it apart.
