You can shine and polish and paint but if you are getting new paint I would spring for new ones. Nothing sets off new paint like new emblems.

OK then I would chrome polish them till you are happy with the way they look. Try to remove all the old paint without sratching the chrome. Then clean them with solvent. Then find some spray epoxy paint in the colors you need. Tape off one half and spray the color on. Then use a rag damp with solvent to wipe the color off the chome where it does not belong. Let it dry and then do the other color.

When I restored my emblems I masked them off and sprayed the letters with an air brush. A simple air brush is cheap ($15.00) and the results look factory original. To mask off the letter, I put masking tape over all of the the letters, then used an exacto knife to cut out the painted part - real easy.

I didn't paint the lower portion of the emblem because I don't think it was originally painted. I know all the reporductions are painted black, but mine are gold colored metal. I've checked with other owners that confirm this. Of course, the Sierra Grande emplems may be different than the "V-eight" emblems.

I am pretty sure the "gold colored metal"is just the paint after 30 years of sun. That what it looked like to me on my Sierra emblems

This is really easy to do. I painted mine with them on the truck. You don't even have to mask off everything. I just painted my Cheyenne (white), 10 (red) and super 9(red) with regular spray paint and then used some laquer thinner and a rag and carefully wiped the paint off the raised chrome sections. Follow up with some good chrome polish, and the result was great! People thought I had bought new emblems. On my side trim pieces, they were really faded from the sun, so I used a dremel and a buffing wheel with rubbing compound, then painted the black the same way. This is time consuming but a whole lot cheaper! Good luck
