Rear view mirror broke off. How to fix

So I have a 86 GMC Sierra. Was driving it recently and adjusted the rear view mirror and the whole thing broke off. There is a nickle sized chunk of glass that came with it. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix it? I am hoping to save the windshield as it is otherwise in great shape.

never heard of that happening..might talk to a glass shop...i know they make chip repair kits...and relocate the mirror a little to a undamaged part of the windshield...

They sell mirror adhesive glue at the auto parts store. Id put the mirror mount back on with it then mount the mirror back on after the correct amount of cure time.

When you use super glue it will take a chunk out of the windshield. Don't ask how I know. Buy the correct adhesive and stick it on a different spot and you will be all set.

Re: Rear view mirror broke off. How to fix

Same thing happened to me twice. I got a new windshield both times because rock chips wipe out windshields quickly in AZ. I finally attached my rear view mirror through the upper trim and into the roof. Careful, make sure you have a short screw so you don't go out the top side of the roof with a long screw.

The loctite mirror adhesive they sell at the parts stores doesn't work worth a darn. Get a two part adhesive that is designed for glass, that will do the job.

I have had that happen. I got an adhesive kit and glued the original mirror button(with the piece of glass) into the original spot. It held for at least a year and then I sold the truck.
