Taurus 3.8l Fan Install

So I got my conversion done and thought I would post some pics. I was surprised to find out how powerful this fan is. Cruising around with no real ram air in 105 AZ heat with no AC running the low speed is plenty of cooling. (large radiator) I made an adapter for my radiator hose and used a radiator temp switch from a VW. The low speed fan kicks on at 200 and shuts off at 190. The low speed will keep the engine at temperature with the AC on but it will not shut off. I wired the high speed to my AC clutch and also a toggle switch in the cab. Just in case. I built a relay bank for the fan and headlights and installed them in a aluminum waterproof box. I have two LED lights in my cab showing what the fan is doing. My engine is a 350 pretty much stock inside.

Mounting the fan was pretty easy with the angle you can see in the pics.

It was a fun project and I have been trying to get it to run hot but the fan really sucks the heat off. Its soooo nice having cooling sitting in traffic as well. Not to mention my AC runs a little cooler as well.

Re: Taurus 3.8l Fan Install

Hmmm. Not really sure what you mean. If the fan is mounted dead center, there is about 3" of clearance to the water pump pulley. I mounted mine all the way to the driver side of the truck. Only because this is the hotter side of the radiator. It probably does not matter where you mount it. There is plenty of room for this fan.

Btw, I upgraded to a 100 amp alternator for this fan. At idle with the fan off, I'm charging at 14.4 volt. Fan on high 13.8, low speed 14.1. My stock alt would have struggled but this one does a great job.

Excellent job. !!!!!!!!!!
So your high speed is running anytime the AC compressor clutch is engaged?. Or if the toggle switch is on?

That's the way it is right now. AC=high speed. I'm still experimenting but so far it seems ok. The low speed fan won't shut off if the AC is on. It will keep it around 195-200 though. The toggle switch is wired to turn on the high speed around the AC. I probably won't need it because I don't tow or anything.

The low speed does such an awesome job with no AC. Not an option in a AZ summer though. I suspect it will be even better the other 9 months of the year.

I'm not sure of the year range for these fans. I got this one off ebay.
