Intermittent Engine Miss
I have a 98 Suburban with 5.7, engine is recent rebuild in good condition. It just started have a problem. Best way to describe, while I'm driving 30mph or higher it feels like someone reached over and quickly turned the ignition key off and then on again. It like jerks the vehicle and keeps going. It may do this only maybe 6 times or so at random in about 20 minutes of driving. I'm wonder if there is a loose ground somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Intermittent Engine Miss
Yeah, I got P0125, P0141, P0161, P0420. For the first, I checked coolant level and found it low. I'll probably get a pair of new 02 sensors since they haven't been replaced in a long time. I typically get the P0420 code and I let it slide for now. If the coolant level doesn't fix the p0125 code, I'll get another ECT and see what happens. I cleared the codes and I'll drive and see what happens. I started to think, I had the lockup convertor going in and out, but I still think its the engine. It acts up worse as it gets hotter after driven or late in the day. It been hot here lately near Houston.

Re: Intermittent Engine Miss
How long has it been since you replaced the cap and rotor?
I had a hard time with GM caps. Recently I switched to an aftermarket with brass terminals and opened up the (clogged) vents in my aluminum distributor and haven't had a problem since. Up to that point, it was a real problem. One day starts and runs fine, the very next day, no start. All because of the cap and rotor. |
