Yet another Fulton Visor thread....

From my search of the archives, I can see that the topic of a Fulton Visor is a topic that either you love or hate, there doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. I fall into the "love it" column and have been unable to find a decent condition original visor for my 1953 5-window. I wasn't looking for showroom condition or NOS, just one that wasn't ridden with rust and dents.

As a result, I'm considering acquiring one of the repro's that are available. Does anyone have any experience with one like this ?

I bought mine about 3 years ago and haven't installed it yet. I bought the 3 piece aluminum one and I think it has stainless brackets. I haven't looked at it for a long time.

Re: Yet another Fulton Visor thread....

If you hunt for "visors" in the accessory listings for AD or TF trucks they were listed as "Frost shields" not sun visors. That is what they were sold for, keeping the frost off your windshield in the rust belt.

If you dig out old car magazines before the mid 70's when Lowrider magazine came out you never upon never will see a visor on any car featured and may see one on an east LA Bomba lowrider in some Cali show coverage.

They were never popular on trucks in this area in the 50's. Probably because the farmers here wouldn't pay for extra frufru in those days.

Still they pass if you are doing the whole lowrider bomb look with all the other frufru including the bumper guards and wide whites but look stuck on as an afterthough on a performance oriented build. Just like any other part or mod on the truck, Does it fit the full build plan and is it a contributing and cohesivce part with the total build or does it stand out from the rest of the truck like a sore thunb?

Re: Yet another Fulton Visor thread....

you made me curious about frost shields, I was thinking about the stick on plastic no-fog things people used to put inside their windows.

I found this 1956 GMC accessory catalog https://www.xr793.com/wp-content/upl...ry-Catalog.pdf
But the 'visor listed' looks like this

which is pretty cool, I have never seen one fitted to the cab like that.

looking for old fulton ads, this is a frost shield:

and this is a sun shield

Do you have a picture of a 1950s frost shield ad?

The 1955 series 1 & 2 trucks have different visor configurations due to windshield/cab designs. I just installed your attached pictured visor on my 1955.2 truck. I like the look; it makes the roof line appear lower. Also, Thanks for attaching a copy of the Accessories Catalogue. I haven't seen that catalogue before; very interesting what items were available back then. The new aftermarket designs are identical to the original factory visors. Most guys I spoke with, have installed them with sheet metal screws, but I recommend using treaded inserts due to possible vibration/wind conditions.

Re: Yet another Fulton Visor thread....

I'm on the love visors side of the fence. I also despaired of finding one I could afford, but craigslist deals do happen. This was to cheap to pass up, seller did not know what it came off. I have seen visors like this sold as 'factory accessories'. Anyone know what brand it is or if it is factory? I was surprised to find it is aluminum when I started stripping paint.
it does not fit AD cab perfectly, it is too low in this picture but the mounts it came with will work

raised up to put it level with side windows it rotates the bottom edge upwards. I made up some new stronger mounts from stainless. Nuts have since been replaced with SS acorn.

and am happy with the final look
