C20 6/8 static drop

Who makes a good 6/8 static drop for a C20 (leaf spring rear end)?

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

Lots of choices in the front. In the rear you either buy springs the drop amount you want and combine with shackles to get you there or do a flip.

I flipped my 69 short step using DJM kit from Summit. Netted me 7" in the rear. Any more and it would have to be C-notched. I did 2 1/2" disc conversion spindles on the front combined with 2" springs for a 4 1/2"/7" drop. My recommendation is that's where you start and not do 6/8. If you want more after the flip add the ECE shackles (I bought them but didn't use them. Flip more than enough IMO.) Springs for the front are cheap to go from the 2" to 3". I think you will be happy it the first go round.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

I have a 5/7 slam and there really isn't any way to go lower with a static drop. Might want to look into bags. I can't even get a low profile floor jack under my front end.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

2.5" drop spindles, 2.5" drop springs up front. 5" drop springs and 2" blocks in back with a c notch. The numbers are relative and will vary slightly with each truck.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

Are you wanting to stay C20?

GMC Pauls has some C20 lowering parts.

Performance Online also sells C20 lowering parts. https://www.performanceonline.com/19...PARTS-C15-C20/

I am trying to lower a 68 C20 but GMC Pauls won't sell to Canada and the shipping quote from POL was higher than the cost of the parts...... still looking......

What wheel and tire sizes are you running. I'm getting major rub, especially on the right side with my 245/75 16's.

15x7 rallies in front with 215 70 tires. 15x8 rallies in rear with 275 60 tires.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

I have 235 55 17 on the front of mine and 275 55 17 on the rear. Front wheel is 17x8 with 4 1/2" BS and rear is 17x9 with 5" backspace. I have zero rubbing.

Where are you rubbing? What offset/backspace is on your wheels?

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

I'm rubbing front right side. I had a set of used 225/75R16's installed yesterday and it's better now. While at the tire shop I think we discovered the cab and front clip may not be sitting on the frame straight. My front passenger side is what's rubbing. Left side is fine. I'm planning to head to a body shop in the next few weeks to have it looked at and fill some screw holes in the doors from old mirrors.

Offset is 4....

Would love to see your rig. I'm thinking about different wheels eventually. Also I did 4" spring drop in the rear but kinda wishing I would have done air springs now. Wanted to reduce the rake but the smaller front tires made it worse again. I really like to big tires in the back but not loving how much rake I've got.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

I have a question. I want to lower my 1965 c20 with a 3/5 drop kit but don't know anyone who sells this for c20. Could I get away with using c10 kits? POL only shows c20 front lowering springs not rear for c20. this is my first c20 always had c10's before that . also on pol it says you could do 4" drop springs in front I thought 3" was the max before alignment gets real bad or could you get away with 4" and still be able to have alignment properly done? Just keeping my options open and I am leaving it all drums around for now.

Scratch my comment, I thought someone had 15" wheels on a C20.

I used C10 2/4 lowering springs on my 68 C20 without any problems.

I thought POL had rear springs? Shipping to Canada was prohibitive so I used C10 springs available in Canada.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

yea they have rear springs but only for c10. the front they say c20 1",2",3",4" drop. just wondering if c10 rear lowering coil springs will be alright to use on a c20 . Obviously they wont be heavy duty but Im not planning on using it to the full max when lowered. Just wasnt sure the differents why c10 from c20

Not sure where the confusion lies. I have 5 lug rallies and believe I posted their size as well as the tire size above. It is a 72 1/2 ton c10 Cheyenne Super with the appropriate badges, truck is in my siggy.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

I’m also looking for a way to drop the rear about 4-5 inches. I went with 3” drop spindles up front but need some drop shackles since I have leaf springs on my C -20. Will the C-10 shackles work? Does anyone have any ideal. I’ve seen to run into a dead end on the back. Thanks for the help.

Re: C20 6/8 static drop

Not much has changed on leaf spring parts since 2015.

4x4 and Longhorn trucks have 2 1/2" wide springs. The C10/C20 have 2 1/4" springs so you can use same kit for the flip or for the shackles.

Obviously, 3/4 ton springs are different arch and thickness will get you different amount of drop. And you get what you get. 7 1/4" on my truck with the HD spring.

If you want more than a shackle and less than a flip you must buy springs. You can buy them in various drops. ECE makes great products. Springs are expensive but will get you whatever drop you desire. But remember that the drop springs are made for 1/2 ton trucks so they may drop your 3/4 ton more. Or not...

Cheapest is flip it, set the pinion angle, weld on new perches you can make from 2 1/4" square tube. I used 4 stock length front shocks all the way around but drilled the second hole in the stock leaf shock upper mount and made the shock more vertical.

Wow Mike your a world of help. Lowering the front was easy. So your saying that the shackles from 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton two wheel drive will both interchange? Im building a rather nice 69 C20 but with a late model common rail dodge diesel. I’m putting 1 ton coils up front {since the diesel is so heavy) and I’m not planning on towing much if anything, nor using it to haul with. I’m also planning on using the Dana 80 rear end with disc for the rear end. I have fab skills but just wanted to know the easy ways to lower the rear end. Thanks for your help Mike
