Front 4” lowering coil springs

Anyone use western Chassis front 4” drop springs? My 1965 Chevy truck has a front 1975 c10 stock suspension. My truck was a c20 and I had originally put gmc Paul’s 3/6 kit on specifically made for c20 but I ended up putting a 71-72 c10 rear and I did keep the 6” springs in. I was told 63-72 springs won’t fit 73-87 . I rather go a lil lower in front 4 and keep my 6 rear is just a nice touch. Not really wanting drop spindles. Anyways performance online isn’t far from me and I could buy them there.

I have a 1972 C10 with 4" drop springs from the previous owner.

This is just my experience but I have a lot handling issues with the front end. It hits the bump stops and also gives a lot of bump steer issues.

I'm currently swapping the 4" springs for 2.5" drop spindles and 1.5" drop springs hoping to fix the front end issues.

never rode in 4" drop springs but from years of wrenching no way would i do this for many reasons .

split it up with drop spindles and coils . help each share the work load and make alignments much more easy to set .

I don’t know why they sell them that low at performance online. I don’t see any reviews on them. I will most likely just get some 3” lowering springs.

The springs probably arent the issue with the handling. Sounds like the front end needs to be rebuilt.
On one of my trucks I run 4" springs and 2.5" spindles and it rides fantastic. This is without a sway bar so far.

Yea I am rebuilding the front end. I’m just going to try them out and let everyone know how it goes.

No I haven’t bought them yet. Ive been working on getting my truck running and fixing Other problems on my truck. I will buy them soon. I’ll keep y’all posted.

4 inch springs make getting a good alignment on the front hard to do and introduce a bunch of bump steer into the system. I would use a combination of springs and spindles. I like 2" or 2 1/2" spindles and what ever spring gets you to the 4 inches you are looking for. Then while you have it apart do the caster mod to the lower control arms (1/2" will get you all you need). You will be able to get 4 to 5 degrees of caster camber will be easy to set with out the extreme angle of the upper control arm that the 4 inch spring gives you and the tie rod angles will be pretty flat keeping the bump steer under control. The springs for the 73-87 are the same as 63 and up.

From what I was told 63-66 front springs will not fit in a 73-87 front suspension. But if you’re correct I do have 3” lowering springs when I had a c20 suspension But recently made my truck a c10 with front suspension out of a 73-87 Chevy c10. I had bought them from gmc Paul’s and they are supposedly made for c20. I just want to keep it simple.

Well They will fit from 63 to 87. The C20 springs may be a bit stiffer than the C10. On my 66 I have the 66 cross member, all the control arms, power steering, drag link, tie rods from a 78 and 73 to 87 drop spindles with 6 lug rotors. All this stuff will swap over including the complete cross member. If you go the the 60 to 66 FAQ section there is a lot of info as to what swaps over and how to do it. So all I'll tell you is i and many others have done it and they will go. Here is a link for front springs shows they fit 63 to 87.

Yea I don’t mind my ride being stiff. Before I did the 73-87 c10 front swap I removed my 8 lug 4.56 gears and installed 71-72 c10 5 lug 3.73....I re installed my c20 6” drop coils and it handled nicely. Yea I’ll give my front coils a try instead of spending more money.

Sorry to high jack. but any more info on this? is there a thread you can point to? i thought anything more than 5" (some say 4") in front drop was asking for trouble.

What other mods were done?
What shocks?
What size wheels? Tires?
What alignment specs were they able to achieve?
