72 grill question

My 72 came with a 68 front clip when I bought it. I have changed the front clip and will order a grill shell and insert this week. (going back to 72)

I have a 69-70 grill from another project.

The out grill supports that rivet to the grill shell....will the 69-70 rivet up the same as a 71-72 or do I have to buy new outer supports to fit the 72 shell?

Thanks.

Re: 72 grill question

I know that the hood release is different between 69/70 and 71/72, but I think the grill pretty much matches up for the mounting.

Re: 72 grill question

Yep, I swapped from 69/70 to 71/72 with no issues before. In those cases the outer supports were riveted to both grills so I used what was attached.

This time I don't have anything 72 to work with and was hoping the 69-70 out pieces would rivet to the 72 shell just the same.

Re: 72 grill question

GMCPauls.com lists the same grille end mounting brackets for 69-72.

Re: 72 grill question

I saw the listing with GMC Paul but the LMC listing has two different part numbers for the outers.

Sort of hoping someone had actually made the swap and riveted back a 69 -70 support to a 71-72 shell.

The part numbers are the same on LMC for 69-70 vs. 71-72 as well:

30-3668 Left
30-3669 Right

If you add the 69-70 and the 71-72 brackets to the cart, they are treated as the same item, and just the quantity is increased. The description in the cart says nothing about the year range.

Hopefully someone who has actually made the swap will chime in and confirm.

Re: 72 grill question

Thanks,

When I read the numbers the second time I saw the same thing. The first time I misread and had them being the same with GMC Paul and different with LMC.

From there I wanted to ask the board for someone who actually completed the swap.

Now that I have re-read the part #'s at LMC I think I am good using my outers from a 70 grill and then just buying the center and latch for the 72.

Thanks again.
