One of the oddest things I found is what appears to be a period roadside kit. In a 71 GMC longhorn body that was set up for a camper, Besides the access panels on both sides to get to the camper wiring and extra tanks, there was

1. Metal second battery tray mounted in the bed body color,
2. Metal mounted body color flare holder body color,
3. Metal mounted box holding roadside reflectors that you set up and fold into an upright position also body color.

I have a reflector set just like that!

If you are calling the large sheet metal tray with the angled sides a battery tray, it may have been used for that purpose, but it is actually a rack for a 5 gal. jerry can.

Way old post, but it brought up a question. My truck has a small hole through the outer and inner roof as well, and just the other day I saw a picture in a thread I was browsing, (the one where the guy bought back the truck that was converted to longbed I'm pretty sure) where there was what appeared to be a rubber plug of some sort in a hole in the center of his roof too.
Was this hole normal? Factory? Or did a lot of these trucks at some point probably have a CB antenna drilled right through the roof? That was my first guess.

I bought a 72 c10 that had been sitting since 93. Under the seat was a ruger 22 pistol in its original box. Shot real well but badly pitted on exterior surface
