tailgate wont close
I bought the tailgate hinge kit and latches for my 71.
The gate will not close . The latches will not go into the rectangular slotted hinge holes. ive adjusted everything. Any ideas ? i'd hate to have to slot these out . ive adjusted up,down, in , out . Anyone have this trouble ?

Put grease on the latch and close the tailgate. You will then be able to see how close or how far away everything is. Most reproduction stuff ends up needing to be tweaked one way or another. Just be careful and make your cuts clean.

yeah i figured i'd have to cut or drill. I hate to do that but it looks like its te next step.

I'll try and get some photos. Ive been side tracked lately with a 69 nova and 64 vette build. The tail gate simply will not latch /shut. It doesnt like much but everything is adjusted all the way out and it wont catch. The latches are aftermarket and so are the strikers. The handle is cheaply made. Will replace it with an OEM fer sure. |
