4x4 shock mounts 72 and also later 3/4t trucks

so my 72 K5 has 76 or so 3/4 ton axles under it. its got a 4" lift as well. so I'm trying to track down the reason now, shocks for Any 72 4x4 1/2 3/4 or 1ton rough country has i think the 9102 listed for it. ANY 73+ truck it lists a 9106 i believe. looked at the specs and it is taller fully extended. I already got the 9102s and they are damn near fully extended mounted. i think I'm just goin to relocate a shock mount to center the travel at ride height.

but I'm curious and kinda lookin for pictures of where on the frame and on the axle shocks mount on
*72 1/2t or k5
*72 3/4t
*73+ 1/2t
*73+ 3/4t

anyone help me out? I guess it really dont matter for sure, the shocks I got are deffinatly too short and i gotta change it but just kinda wondering. or if anyone has any suggestions, SHORT of telling me to buy the longer shocks

Maybe it is because in 68-72 the shock mount on the axle housing is shorter than the 73 up ones? I had the same issue on an old 69 K10 and ended up putting on the later shocks. As far as I know the shock mounting location on the frame is in the same place. I could be wrong though.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but here is a pic of a 72 K10 frame with a 79 3/4 ton 10 bolt front axle

I had the same problem when I put the 74 axle under my 59. I fabbed the top bracket then measured the distance with the engine, etc. in. Then I went to local 4wd place and started measuring shocks fulled compressed and fully extended and bought one that had center matching my measurements.

If you have a 4" lift, you must buy shocks sized for the lift. I have 72 with a lift and had no problems finding shocks. I used the bilsteins as they have specific shocks for my truck / lift combo, but there are other choices out there.

stock length shocks will be maxed out!!
