Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed
Day 1.

So what brings us to day "1"?

Well, it started with project "Crash": A 1954 2 ton 4X4 that was in need of a donor.

After cruising the "Craigslist" ads, I found a 1987 GMC Crew Cab Dually 4x4. This truck was previously an "Old man's" truck.

What's a "Old Man's" truck? It's a truck that gets treated, by its owner, with the kind of respect that only comes from a man who knows what it means to earn an honest, hard earned dollar!

So, after a 12 hour road trip, I arrived home with this:

I'm not going to lie to you, and tell you it was love at first sight... I had a 1954 2 ton truck just dying for a few parts!

For any of you who followed the beginnings of project "Crash", than you know where my heart truly was...

So lets just get down to "Brass Tax" shall we...

After posting a few parts ads, to get rid of what parts I knew I wouldn't need, I found myself playing in the wrong swimming pool...The 73-87 pool!

I had no idea that a crew cab truck could look so cool as a short bed...

Today is January 15, 2010, and tomorrow I will show you what kind of mess I have made...

The dually bed is Gone!
The shell is Gone!
The Dana 70 rear axle is Gone!
Wheels / Tire are GONE!

NEW PARTS
37X14.50X17 Toyo A/T (Smokin' $200 per tire at Les Schwab)
17X9 Custom Wheels (Picked up today with tires)
Skyjacker 8" lift (Will be here in (1) week)
Procomp ES3000 Shocks (Any-day)
Aluminum Radiator w/electric fans
14 Bolt FF rear axle (Arriving tomorrow)
2 Wheel drive Power steering box
Cross over steering (Lavender Brothers)
Tilt steering column (Ready for install)
Fleet side short bed!

Parts to be ordered:
Turbos

You guys are about to see the most thorough Short Bed Conversion on this site!

Almost all the parts are already here, so hold onto your pants, and brace yourselves for the real "On Your Marx Customs" deal!

One last note: For all you 6.2 Diesel guys... Yep, a twin turbo 6.2 diesel power plant is in store for this beast!

Truck looked awesome when you first got it. It sounds like you have a good plan ahead of you, and I am anxious to follow it.

Those are sweet looking wheels. They will look good on a ccsb.

I'm in on this one also....I'm putting a turbo 6.2 or 6.5 in mine...just gotta get a few things buttoned up first...would be great to get it turbo'd first before I swap it out...
