My local PD still has a few of them. It's a little strange seeing them run around.

Man, when you say "cop car" that is what comes to my mind.

Just like when I was a kid and every cop motorcycle had to be a KZ900 or KZ1000.

Hopefully they will go to good use as those are the preferred sacrificial lambs for the old f**d truck guys for drive train transplants.

And then maybe somebody would transplant a Chevy drivetrain into the CV and have a real car

Seriously??? I bought an '02 CV in 2007 that had 17K miles on it, and in excellent condition. We still own that old F**d.. It's our daily driver.. Repairs, you ask.. One fuel pump, one mirror gimble switch, two sets of tires, a couple tune ups, and 2 replacement batteries - original lasted 10 years and would still pass a load test when I replaced it.. Now has over 112K miles on it, uses absolutely no oil, no leaks, and the best part - gets 19 mpg city and 25 highway.. Best car I ever owned and no thoughts of retiring it.. Chevy drivetrain ---- not on your life..

.
YouTube guy...Cleetus Mcfarland...bought an entire fleet of retired law enforcement CVs. Then put a NO kit and roll cage on each and used them in a spec race on his race track!

These cars proved to be very tough and reliable despite having already spent a lifetime on the road ( well maintained lifetime )!

Yep, probably good for another 150K.. Those Panther platform (Crown Vic, Grand Marque, and Lincoln Town Car) Fords were/are tough.. Our car has been garage kept it's entire life which has been spent in South East and East Texas.. The paint and interior is still very nice, no rust anywhere.. Everything works as it should.. My wife and I are retired and don't lead a vain lifestyle.. We see no need to replace the car just because of it's age....

Re: CHP retires their last Crown Vics.

The cars were worthy vehicles, the engines could be crap, though. The Triton engine was another of ford's tremendous stupid ideas. Every parts store in America will likely have a thread repair kit (as in helicoil) for the triton engine!!!

I can't imagine having to install helicoils in my spark plug holes when JUST changing the dad gum spark plugs!!! On top of that, breaking one of those spark plugs off, is a relatively easy thing to do, also!!! AND when installing the helicoils, metal shavings ocviously get into the cylinder. The "fix" on the shavings is to blow air into the cylinder, to "TRY" to get as much metal out, as possible, WHAT A CROCK!!! IF, IF the metal that doesn't come, causes problems with the engine, after your simple plug installation, you MIGHT have to remove a head...........WHAT?

I worked at a parts store from 85-98. My Boss made sales calls to garages, and anyone that obviously worked on cars...One city repair garage, mind you, this was only 1998, a year and a half after the putrid engine came out, they had a stack of used up triton engines behind their shop, that crapped out in one form or another. They were not warrantable, because of the miles (ford put 100,000 mile warranties on them, not too long after, BECAUSE THEY NEEDED TO!!!) THey were in constant contact with salvage yards that had gotten in running triton engines in wrecks, just to keep ahead of the engine carnage....

Of course, many never have a problem

Chevrolets are not perfect, but are my only choice!!!

Re: CHP retires their last Crown Vics.

The 4.6 in the panthers isn't the triton. Just a basic 2 valve. A couple year vics could have messed up plug threads if the plugs where not installed properly.
Had an 89 panther that somebody hit and resulted in a write-off, got a 2008 to replace it. next best thing to a caprice considering a panther is a lot easier to find than a caprice around these parts.

I always wanted one.

I was talking to a cab driver I was a bit tipsy at the time and needed a ride. He had over 300K on his. He said it ran great. He drove it all over.

But it didn't smell too good. But then again.Taxi's never do.

That's from the drunk guys leaning over the seat to ask the cabby if he has room for a 6-pack and a pizza up front.

I'm not a Ford person but we have an 06 civilian crown vic. It's actually been a pretty good car.I only paid 3 grand for it and it is in immaculate shape and everything works. My only complaint is they should've put bigger gas tanks in them.I wish GM would've kept thier RWD full-size line up as long as Ford did.

Richard, I'm not a Ford person either, but facts are facts, aren't they..

Among other factors, two things killed GM's RWD passenger car program.. Reliability and fuel mileage.. The bodies fell apart and rusted out.. Their "yard barges" couldn't get 20 mpg on a good day.. Ford ditched the pushrod engine in favor of the 4.6 OHC engine and fuel mileage (depending on the body style it was in) Exceeded 24-26 mpg and ran FOREVER.. My V8/AOD equipped '02 CV gets almost 10 mpg better than my daughter's V8/5spd manual '02 Camaro.. Hauls 50% more people and has twice the luggage space to boot...

My only experience with the Crown vic involved changing a brake light switch for a girlfriend. I was under the influence of testosterone. I had no idea what evil lurked behind those closeout panels.

As long as that shot wasn't taken in your rear view mirror you're cool.

The Sheriff's drive Explorers up here. All white and you can barely see the light bar.

Problem being. A LOT of people drive white Explorers up here. So when they come up behind me it makes me nervous. It's hard to tell.

They all make me nervous, ever since I started driving and got pulled over so many times for nothing. The sight of one making a quick u-turn in my rear view was all too familiar. I do like the traditional paint job. They tried other colors but came back to tradition. It seams cops, town, county, state, are mostly driving SUVs now. Even more intimidating and military-like. Troopers are all black, some have no light bar at all, there is no shortage of them

Did he get two Mountain Dews for handing it in?

Here's what the last Maryland State Trooper Crown Victorias looked like

the Jailors did get the smoke from him, I remember that part of it. I'm sure those jailors saw so much stuff go on, that not much surprised them on shift.
