Bought another vintage Ford

Always had a soft spot for these. Dad had a couple 8N's growing up and my grandpa had a couple NNAs (Jubilees). They actually still have them.

So I picked up a 1953 Golden Jubilee. It has repop rear fenders, brand new fuel tank, the hood and front clip are a little rough (someone booger welded all the panels together), and it has a resale paint job, but it fires right up, idles well, runs well, all the shifts feel good, clutch feels good, steering feels tight, no noticeable leaks, and the PTO and lift are good. The brakes are phenomenal. I almost popped off my seat when I tested them.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

That is a good looking tractor.

Are those the factory colors.

I really like the grill/hood. Would be something nice to use on a hot rod.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

Sweet! I’ve been keeping an eye out for a 8n, 9n or Jubilee. The Jubilee’s are coolest.
My grandpa was a dairy farmer and always had Minneapolis Moline’s. I’m fond of those but for my use the Fords are more practical.

Me giving the kids a hayride on the 8N last summer. I think it was 110 that day and 90 percent humidity...you can see it on their faces

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

Kids never were good at realizing when their folks were building their character for them . I bet they don't forget that ride.

That's a sweet one Jesse. I grew up on a farm and helped bail the hay. I ran one of those pulling the wagons (after riding in the wagon behind the bailer stacking it. Your kids got to just sit there.

When I was working for the elderly woman on her place, doing carpentry and such, I got theirs running after sitting under the barn a long time. Rebuilt the carb and flush/treat the tank mostly. It made her so happy to see it running she said she wanted me to have it. When she passed away her one daughter who was not so involved in her care gave it to one of her horse buddies for being so helpful to the place. All he did in the years I was these was use the skid loader they rented for him to gather up all the old vehicle remnant and farm equipment and cash it in when it was paying a high price. He painted a pretty picture for the old woman telling her he was using the old relics for horse jumps. Yeah right, who jumps high dollar horses over rusted sharp chunks of metal?
Anyway, I just thought it was nice of her to say she wanted me to have it. It would have been nice if she had told her daughters, but I was expecting it anyway.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

Great stories and pics fellas. I've been stupid busy with coordinating everything for my shop build. It's amazing how fast 25K can fly out your door...

That sucks you couldn't get that tractor Tim.

Good news is the seller still had the old fenders in his scrap pile and he let me take them. So I can run OEM style ford Script fenders. The aftermarket makes the fender skins, but no one makes the brackets (they just unbolt and they're pretty damn thick/heavy duty). I'll hang the old beat up skins as wall fodder in the new shop.

Why do you need all those golf carts

Why do any of us have 5 old cars we don't need, or huge die cast car collections, vintage signs, or whatever else we all collect.

I've just always wanted one. It's a 10-15 footer. Long term plan is to restore it to better than new.

I do have some uses for it around the yard. A couple years ago I started mowing the entire gas easement behind my house and the vacant property next to me. Looking into a used finishing mower. I'll also be able to use it around the house to move heavy parts and dead cars, and I can hook my wagon up to it to do all my mulch every spring (usually 3-4 trailers full.)

It's not much, mostly because I had money burning a hole in my pocket and I wanted it.

If I can make it happen, I want to buy the acre next to me, clear it about half of it, and Jena wants to do a large garden. But the guy isn't very open to selling right now.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

Nice looker you got ,, I am guessing it is a stick shift and hope it is anyway because I borrowed a old 8-N that was a automatic and it ran away from me after I put it into neutral and jumped off with it still running and I had to run and catch it ,,a dangerous and bad thing as I could of gotten run over by the front wheels when jumping back on to stop it ...

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

That's odd... I thought they were all 4 speeds (the 8N's and Jubilees, after the jubilees they had a funky hi/lo 5 speed).

Cool pics Killer Bee! Neat info too! I have the original bill of sale for my 68 Firebird. They traded in a "1964 Chevrolet 4 Door" for it.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

The first thing I have to do with it is regrade the +/-275 cubic yards of dirt that was removed from my garage pad area to the low side of my property. The contractor only rough graded it and did a kinda half ass job. I've done plenty of land smoothing on one of these back in the day.

Re: Bought another vintage Ford

Nice.

Folks are still using them everywhere around here, too.

I was in the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village (in the museum portion) one time. They have the first Fordson, converted Model T passenger vehicles and various 8N and 9N prototypes. But no production tractors in the museum.

I asked the docent why not. She paused and said "well - they are all out in the village working!"

Probably not.

I was giving the kids a hay ride one time and my daughter fell off. She got wedged under the trailer.

I was able to use the tongue jack to lift the trailer off her enough that there was no damage (at least physically, anyway).

I still hear about that one every so often.

We were playing ball as kids, I was probably 13/14 and my 10/11 year old sister walked behind me right as a swung, caught her full swing in the eye. I still cringe thinking about it. Her eye was bruised for months. That was 25-ish years ago, she seems kinda normal...
