Fuel Sending Unit

Hello Everyone, Hope this is in the right location. I have a 1979 k5 blazer. I need to purchase a fuel sending unit for it. The Problem I am having is choosing the right gallon size. Does it really matter what gallon size? It has currently a 4 tube outlet. So is it a 25 or a 31 gallon? Thanks, John

STILL Working on a frame up: 1987 Truck body on a 78 Blazer frame. Need cab blasted to start project. Got the cab BLASTED, Now Prep and Paint. Started to lay SOME BONDO and primer. Done, Ordering paint. Got paint, Stuff painted,Cab,Fenders, Hood more later. 9/7/2015 Got the clear coat on,now time to take one off. Started to put things back (What a nightmare) like the heating and AC stuff, inside wire harness, outside AC unit and booster, still more. May 2016, still working on the inside. Got duck work in,heating and AC. Radio (stock) in dash with after market in console later, Speaker are hooked up, Steering column is in. Getting ready to drop the cab onto the frame, Working on engine now since I have the room. Well here it is 2018, got the engine in and it runs, now I need to get the exhaust system in so I can adjust the lifters, to loud right now. Got the exhaust on now I am waiting for the break parts to come in.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit

I don't think gallon size matters as long as you replace with another 4 outlet sender.

Yes, it matters what size the tank is because the 25 and 31 gallon tanks are different depths (approximately 2 inches different).

Re: Fuel Sending Unit

Thanks both of you . I still have the old one. What if I measure the lip where the seal goes, down to the tip of the filter pickup, can that help me get the right one?

Re: Fuel Sending Unit

I think on lmc site they list tank measurements so you can figure out what size tank you have.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit

The 25 gallon tank is 10 3/4" deep. The 31 gallon tank is 12 3/4" deep.

I would just measure the tank itself; that way you can be sure you're comparing apples to apples when looking at LMC Truck, Spectra Premium's website, Rock Auto, etc.
