I searched the forum and understand that an early 70s tilt column will work.
Can someone clarify the exact overlap years that would apply
I want to stay with my original deluxe steering wheel
I am using Th400 as well

not an answer, but don't overlook motor homes. Plus, many of them have a keyless column. I used a 1974 motor home column--fits perfect.

You need to watch for Vans.. They will have the tilt you are lookin for, I found mine in a 72.. 70-72 Van had an option for tilt that will keep your key on the dash. You can go later but the wiring will have to be spliced and your key will change position. The early 70' truck tilts are getting hard to find and can be costly.

as 72bigred said, look into chevy van tilts. I think up to 76 vans still had the key in the dash and not on the column. Be forewarned though you will still need to modify the column to fir your truck. You MUST move the neutral safety switch further down the column - all in all not a bad job though.You also will need an adaptor to get the column wiring to mate with your truck wiring or get a matching male plug to match your column wiring. The wiring adaptors are readily available. I'm cheap and went with repining my existing wiring to a factory female flat connector. Usually the tilt PNRD indicator is broken but also readily available along with the PRND lense and housing. All are relatively inexpensive. I bought my 72 van tilt off eBay for $119.00 with shipping a few years back. The indicator needle was broke and the PRND lens was pretty scratched up. I think the price for both reproduction pieces was around $15.00. The first pic shows the correct 72 column wiring connector attached to my 64 wiring. The second pic shows how I slid my column down to get as close to the dash as I could for more gut room. I'm not a big man at 5'9" & 173lbs but I wanted more room. Oh, as a bonus I also now have 4 way flashers.

As luvbowties said, look for someone parting out a motorhome. Even up into the '80's they has the ignition switch on the dash, so no ignition switch on the column. Most that I have seen were tilt columns.
