Need Help Verifying My 1957 Cameo Engine Suffix

I am starting to restore my 1957 Cameo, and want to verify that the engine is the original engine.

The code stamped on the deck in front of the head is "CE86144 5"

I understand the CE denotes the 265v8 with HD clutch. ( and my vin starts with a v and all badges have the V in them and it is a 3speed on the column )

What do the other numbers mean? ie. the "86144 5"

Thanks in advance

Mike

Scroll down to the paper page 80 on this pfd.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

I'd at least save the link or download the pfd to your computer as you may need to refer to it a number of times in the next few months.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I'd think you already have but have you checked the casting number on the block?
http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html One source.

The guys on this page have spent a lot of time and effort to get accurate casting and vin numbers for Chevy engines http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.

There are tons of pages on casting numbers and casting dates along with the stamped codes.

It seems that between 55 and 58 they changed their format for the codes a time or two and that gets confusing.
