Donor truck compatibility
I have a 98 k3500 dually with a bad rear end. I also have a 68 1 ton that I would like to put front disc brakes on. My question is, could the same donor truck serve both purposes? I know that a 73-87 front end will work on the 68, but will the 73-87 rear end work in the 98?
There are a lot of 73-87 C30's with no engine for sale cheap around here. Thanks- Morgan |

Re: Donor truck compatibility
A '73-'87 dually differential could work under your '98. It will not be just a bolt in swap. The spring perches and likely the chock mounts will need to be changed. There are also a couple of different widths in the '73-'87 C/K30 differentials, as well as 2 sizes of brakes. And then since your '98 is a K series, you will have to have the exact same gear ratio.

Re: Donor truck compatibility
It is a cabnchassis or full width? Same for the donor truck. What happened to the rear?

Re: Donor truck compatibility
The 98 is a full width dually. The rear end quit with a bang. I don't have a donor truck yet, just investigating what would work.
