Cut top or bottom of coil spring?

Lowering my 1996 shortbed. Plan to cut about 1/2 coil off. What is best, cut bottom of spring or top of spring?
Is there an indented "stop" in the upper spring pocket that would need lining up with the coil end?
I know there is an indented stop in the lower control arm. Is this where I should line up the coil end after cutting and re-installing?

Pretty sure its top as the bottem is more spring rate which you need. As to the rest, no idea. I just spend the $100 for proper springs.

I don't remember if the top is indented also, but if it is, you need to cut 1 coil so both ends line up in the pockets, called "clocking". 1/2 coil is going to cause issues, squeaking and possibly the spring sliding into and destroying the shock.

Also, if the top of the spring is "sqaured off" meaning it lies flat on the frame, I would consider replacing with correct lowering springs as after it's cut, the sharp end of the spring will rest unevenly on the frame pad and can cause the same issues as not taking a full cut on a clocked spring.

UPDATE:
Removed my coils

There is NOT an indent at the top of the spring pocket.
There IS an indent in the lower A-arm where the coil is "clocked"

The top of the coil is squared off, so would not cut here.
The bottom is tangential, so this is where to cut.
