V30 TH400 making noise... bad converter?

If this is in the wrong section please move. Figured since it was in a square body...

Just put a freshly rebuilt TH400 back in my 1-ton with the same converter (converter was new 2,XXX miles ago).

Doing the SAME thing as the transmission I replaced it with. Get it up to speed and back off to cruse, it's like the transmission falls out of gear and "no one's home" when you push the pedal, engine winds up. Only way to get it to catch again is to punch the pedal quick and it grabs.

Coming to a stop I can hear a rattling (watch video below, starts at 5sec). It was louder before hand.

Sound like a junk converter? Shutters a bit when I back up the drive and first take off.

Any help/thoughts are appreciated. After having the trans out of this thing 3 times I'm at wits end...

If you're sure it has good vacuum then it must be the converter. They usually don't upshift right with low vacuum.

Try this one SunSoaked... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvp8ayRvs2k I have it listed as "Unlisted" so it's not seen by my subscribers or have it go into my videos list.

I pulled the vacuum line from the modulator when it was running, seems like there is plenty of vacuum. I know when I checked it at the manifold a while back it was around 20-22, replaced the rubber lines when the transmission went back in. Going to pull the converter this Wednesday...

Re: V30 TH400 making noise... bad converter?

Hard to tell from the video but does the noise have a rhythm or kinda random like something banging around in there? I just had my 400 and convertor rebuilt. My convertor was making a similar noise. I was going to unbolt the convertor on Saturday and make sure it was the trans/convertor and not the engine before heading back to the trans shop. Wouldn't you know it, I could not reproduce it. I did notice however, it only did it in park or neutral. I
