Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Well currently smurfette is taking up space in my brother's yard in midland texas but she has not been forgotten lol. Working on getting smurf finished and then eventually resettled in Kansas city Missouri then will be coming back to her. since I have all smurfs ideas worked out and have no forseeable changes needed to be made have been looking at ideas for smurfette and plans for her once I have her back in my hands. MY bother came all the way up here after the guy gave me smurfette back and hauled her down to midland lol. He made me think he was buying her off me in trade for a couple of engines rotflmao lol. Turns out he was getting her to hold on for me and told me when I am ready bring a trailer and haul her back home gotta love family members! Well a new junkyard opened up in spanaway Washington and it turns out he has an unmolested 66 gmc custom body suburban in there that has not been molested as of yet. I am heading back over there Tuesday to see what other lil pieces I can get out of it for smurfette mainly things like access covers panels for the barn doors n such. But also the chrome bumper and brackets off the back since I a missing one of the braces for smurfs rear chrome bumper. But the first day I saw her I immediately rushed back home and grabbed my tools since she had the full chrome custom package intact on her and proceeded to gently remove it from the truck..... only one piece in the entire chrome package was damaged at some time in the past. spent today looking at specialty shops that are good at fixing the ding n dents in the chrome trim and will be contacting them soon and get an idea how much to tap out the dents and the one small smashed section. But I digress on to pictures

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

While picking up the better shape bed for smurf The guy mentioned he had another k10 frame for sale. So I got curious and lo n behold a perfect suburban k10 frame in his yard. Comes with a title, working Rockwell t case, 72 k20 front disc and rear drum matched axles and all the brackets smurfettes frame is missing including the rear factory bumper mounts!!!!! May even look like a friend will get his hands on some step side full fenders I may snag up as well to boot

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Well that frame fell through but will keep my eyes open the axles were locked up and not bolted in place so was gonna be a ***** to try n get the thing on a trailer grrrr! oh well spent the money on more needed body and paint work on my other truck lol. Friend of mine picked up a 1962 carryall custom body truck recently in Oregon and he has 2 sets of the interior window trim pieces and the headliner trim panels I am picking up in a few weeks. I am trading him a radio and a few other things for them.

Taillight lenses for the Suburbans and Panels are being reproduced now. Classic Ind has them as does 4-5-6 Chevy trucks. I got mine several years ago from CI and I have a brand new set in their original boxes that I got from Pioneer Classics in Phx. $100 for both.

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

65Chevy,
I already have some of the aftermarket ones myself. When I get finished with my 64 pickup going to be building a set of led tail lenses with the extra led strips I have left over. Did see a bad ass suburban recently online pics from a friend kinda show a similar theme like I am going to do with mine. Just not doing mine as a 4 door body style I have talked to my ole junkyard buddy in midland texas and he has a set of dana 60/70 axles for my dually build he says he will hang on to till I am ready.
Here are some pics of the bad ass suburban 4 door on a school bus frame full 4wd setup.

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Well got in some parts I thought would make great wall art till I saw how good a shape they are in..... minimal rust not pitting of the emblems and best of all no antenna holes so I can go a hidden antenna route in the burb. found these lil gems on ebay recently and snatched them up lol. So they have been repurposed to the smurfette build.. Also been hardcore researching diesel engine transmission combos now that I have the path on smurf completely set except for small issues will be posting more on that closer to time. so many combos options and engines to choose from lol

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Well stumbled across another lucky find so when I get home to texas can get the suburban up n running and not have to wait till things are all in place to enjoy driving it a bit. Found a complete chevy my6 np833 trans 4wd transmission for 500$ picking up this weekend on the way back from canada. May attempt to use it with the diesel engine but not sure quite yet if nothing else will make a good match to the 283 currently in the burb!

Picked up the transmission on the way home from a weekend getaway stock factory hurst shifter bell housing is all there. does have some free play in the input shaft so definitely will need a look inside and see what needs replaced but quite tickled finding a complete 4wd one close by to me

No completely different engine Captainfab. Its based off the 2.8 isf engine they are talking about using in the nissan frontiers.

Well have not posted in quite on anything. moved almost 2 years ago and finally getting things home and arranged so I can get back to work on things lol.... couple of months ago took 5 days off to go get the suburban and brought it to its permanent home. Dreaming right now but for sure will be getting a diesel swap once everything is finished on my GMC project lol.

got a few more parts gathered in last year and recently. Landed a Dodge divorced np205 t case that is working just have to track down a set of linkages for it lol. Then a week ago landed an NV4500 for a steal. Will see how that one turns out here soon enough. going to stick with the 283 for now.. Just trying to find a marine 2 barrel intake manifold as I bought a vortec 305 for the heads for 50$ freshen them up a bit and should be good plus I got the serpentine setup off it as well.

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

and on the 283 engine.. as few have ready the entire thread I got lucky when I got the burb.... Guy I bought from said here is the 283 from in it... don't know nuttin bout it just take it and get it outta my way... 10 years later after lotsa wheeling n dealing he and I are great friends lol..... after the duramax idea bombed got to look at this nice lil engine... pulled the casting codes from the passenger side front cylinder head.... run the codes and went hrrmmmmm that is not something I ran across before.... codes read for a factory crate replacement 175 horse 283 engine.... ok so pulled the factory power pack heads and then checked cylinders rotflmao... still has hone marks down the cylinder so I am hoping the engine is good. picked up some vortec 305 heads for it... and starting gathering parts which I will follow up on in next post

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

ok since sticking to the 283 and running the NV4500. wanted something simple and reasonably cheap for fuel injection... 175 horse engine should be easy enough so got junkyard hunting at local picknpulls and got my hands on a 305 TBI unit plus a 305/5 speed computer setup. will need a custom chip (maybe) TBI unit is torn down and ready for vatting right now just got to get around to it lol... wiring harness is basically setup just need to find a mounting point for the computer inside the cab.. all the wiring is roughly 10ft so should have plenty of places to mount under the dash then put everything in place and start putting the connectors on.. gotta say its nice having the GM wiring crimp tools for all this stuff lol.. also found a mercruiser 305 vortec tbi intake manifold online.. only thing not sure about is the riser for the TBI to mount to the manifold will it hurt anything using it like this? any advice on that one will help alot
ok here are some pics!

I don't have an answer, but I want to follow this - in that I'm interested in how the tbi works out for you.
