E Brake with 14 Bolt Disc Brake Conversion

Okay, I've done a lot of research on this all over the net but haven't found the answer I'm looking for.

For those of you who have done the 14 Bolt disc brake conversion and have used the GM calipers for the rear over the Eldorado ones, what exactly do you do come inspection time? I'm looking for some honest answers here. Here in Texas we need the emergency/parking brake.

I am planning on rebuilding my 14 bolt and would like to go the disc brake route, but I'd like to keep the parking brake. If all else fails, I'll just keep the rear drums and shoes because I don't want to be fussing with the extra expense/modification of an e brake.

Thanks in advance.

if you don't use the Eldo calipers you're limited to a driveline/pinion brake or a line lock. I doubt neither one is legal for inspections.

No inspection in Ohio. My truck has no E-brake parts left on it, took the pedal out and cut off the brackets.

As mentioned a driveline brake or line lock are options. The line lock likely won't pass inspection as most of the time (if not all) an ebrake has to be mechanical and not dependent on hydraulic pressure.

I will be going with a high-angle-driveline transfer case ebrake. A little pricey but it should be legit enough to pass inspection. You need to check with state laws though.

Yeah, the conversion seems so enticing but I really hate worrying about inspections. Here in Texas we need the mechanical e-brake so it looks like my "only" option at this point is the Eldo calipers.

Drive line breaks should be leagal. I just worked on a gm based motor home with 4 out of the 6 wheels had disk and the tag axle was some kind of drum breaks but no ebrake on them. It had a drive line break. That is from factory and inspected in tyler tx.

try TSMMFG they have new GM disc brake calipers complete for $320 for the set. You can go to Lokar for the e-brake cables and setup. That's what I'm gonna do with mine

The bigger trucks came with a e brake on the back of the trans on the rear drive shaft.
