Door Alignment

I could use a little help on this one, on my 72 4x4 pickup I am getting ready to replace inner and outer rockers I want to make sure the door is aligned before I start so when I put on the rockers on it is right. In the picture below the door is out quite a bit from the rocker in the front the back of the door is fine and it is in as far as it will go at the hinge. Looks like the rocker was replaced before do you think who ever installed it didn't align it properly (will I be able to move the new rocker out that much 1/2" ?)or maybe there is a problem with the door ? door is not rusted and looks like original skin.
Anyone run in to this before ?

Thanks
John

Re: Door Alignment

You also need to check and possibly replace or rebuild the hinges first

Re: Door Alignment

Start with getting the door aligned with the back of the cab, and up/down. That means you no longer mess with the hinge part that's bolted to the cab, so you can eliminate that movement. Then align the fender to the front of the door, rocker, and cowl.

Once all of that is done, you can fine tune the door by moving it in and out. Move it in and out to align it with the fender with the hinge bolts on the door. Then realign it in/out with the back of the cab by moving the door striker in/out.

If none of that works, you can shim out the bottom of the fender and try realigning the rocker if you still think it was done wrong.
