Bought new steelies

I have been looking for rims for my truck . Decided that old school was best . I looked into e350 rims at local yards but 30 $ a rim and then I would have to dispose of the tires was out of the question. And then I would have rusty used rims that would need sandblasting or lots of hand sanding prime and paint.

So my search ended at roadreadywheels.com brand new 16x7 for 69$ apiece. The grey paint is actually very nice but I may repaint them . But I think with later model center caps the gray will work.

Very nice! Paint em! You won't be sorry. But I understand, hate to have to paint over such a nicely finished wheel. $30 per wheel wasn't such a bad deal for the old crusties, but you did indeed save money with the route you took and got brand new wheels in the process. I think 16x7 is the same with as the econolines. Great width. I think that's what sicklajoie has on his truck.

They are for 92-97 econolines. But in reality even if I paint them I'm way ahead. Summit wants if I remember 114$ each. I'll have to think about the paint grey is growing on me.

Re: Bought new steelies

this might give you an idea what the gray will look like. It was a thing for GMCs, looks good. Could just do it in gray for your first set of tires, then when they are worn out and you wheels are all scratched up anyway, THEN powdercoat em white...

BUT, I think the gray on the econos is quite a different shade than the silver on the GMCs.

Great deal! GMCs didn't come with different color wheels than Chevys. Yes, the E & F 250/350 steel wheels are 16 x 7.

Re: Bought new steelies

Nothing wrong with gray IMO, that was my choice when I had my F250 16x7s powdercoated.

Tim, I could have sworn some GMCs (some 69s come to mind) had silver wheels, (while their counterpart chevs had white).

Re: Bought new steelies

Both Chevy and GMC used silver in '68 and '69, but a 4wd '68 would have black wheels. These appear to have the same centers with no vents that the Wheel Vintiques use. I wouldn't call these Ford anything wheels. Those were Accurides which had vents. These are simply replacement wheels of modern manufacture. I had the Accurides painted silver (argent) with '76-up hubcaps on my '92 K3500 SRW for an example of that look. I did it on that truck to look 'as if' they 'might have been' factory. That's how my '91 K2500 Suburban came. On a 2-tone with white I would want the wheels white to go with it.

Re: Bought new steelies

Mine came in white and I kept it since my top is white. It kind of match's I guess. The wheels are the only shiny part on the truck
