Trans turns driveshaft in N not in Park 4L80E

Hi y'all,

I'm kind of stumped about an issue I have. Just converted the 68 to an LQ4 with a 4L80E trans from a 2500HD. The funny thing is that while I'm in neutral, the wheels still want to spin/ it still places torque on the driveshaft.

To the best of my knowledge, I'm sure I keyed/adjusted the selector correctly to the transmission. I haven't driven it much because I'm just completing the build but I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

John

Stumped you say. Simply disconnect your shift linkage at the trans lever on the driver side of the trans case and push the lever all the way forward. This will be park. Now put your shifter in park. Can you reconnect your linkage ?

Most likely you will have to either lengthen the cable/linkage or shorten it to be able to reconnect it to the trans lever.

Are your wheels in the air? If so it could just be fluid friction turning the wheels with no real grab.

Sounded like he had driven the vehicle so I was assuming the wheels were on the ground. But again it’s all about how things are worded. Hope that’s it. Good luck

Simple friction in the transmission.

Park actually has a lever that prevents the driveshaft from spinning.

Sounds like there is no need to be stumped if the wheels are on the ground and the trans is in neutral and the wheels will not spin/move. If it does move in neutral than the linkage/cable will need to be adjusted correctly. If the wheels are off the ground and in neutral the wheels may turn or SPIN as you mentioned. This is normal. Again. Good luck on your test drive and let us know how the wheels spin under hard throttle.
