Need Help Fast>towing Biscayne - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Okay. I've got a predicament. I need to get my Biscayne home this weekend. U-Haul can rent me a dolly for 40 bucks. But they say my '64 Biscayne wont fit on the dolly. It's a 75" dolly and they say the Biscayne is 78.1" track. Will it fit on the dolly. I know some of you have used them to pull these trucks. Please help as I need to get this car moved THIS weekend. And Dolly's in my area aren't abundant, so I need to reserve one as soon as possible. Thanks

If they say it won't fit their dolly, see if you can rent one of their trailers or a universal tow bar. I've never used one of their trailers but I have used the tow bar with good results.

You do NOT have to drill the bumper for the tow bar.

U-Haul said my 59 Apache would not fit on the trailer, but I tried anyway. It was tight but it did fit with tires rubbing. You can try but I can't guarantee it will work. I do believe the car hauler is a few inches bigger see about one of those.

I cant use a car hauler, cuz no way to get it on it and back off, as my driveway is a big hill and I live in a neighborhood. So no dice. I'll call and check into tow hitches.

I pulled a 1975 Pontiac Grandville Convertable (Big/Heavy Car) from Rhode Island to Ohio with a U-haul tow bar. No drilling required. Actually had the wife drive the car over the Newport Bridge then we pulled off the side of the road and hooked it up to the truck. No problems!!!!

I was told the same thing. "The car would not fit on a dolly"

you can use a tow chain and a guy in the biscane youre towing to apply the brakes and steer

I think The U-haul tow bar clamps to the bumper and frame rail.
How far you hauling it? If it is less than 10 miles and you don't have to do freeway speeds, I'd use a chain...despite the local laws against that sort of thing. Towed a dead Chevette 35 miles that way once.
Do you (or anyone you know) have tripple A? They'll haul it for you if you call. (in case you haven't thought of it yet)

Well, it's a hundred miles. From Richmond, KY to Burlington, KY, 100 miles freeway. Up I-75. Yea, I've used chains to pull everything in my life. Trucks, cars, jeeps, hell boats across the ground. lol. I need to get it done this weekend, because my mom is moving out of the house. And I need like a day or so to reserve the dolly. I may end up having to have the guy tow it back to the junkyard where I bought it from to store for a week or two so I can figure someway to get it home. And a way all the way home is too much. Thanks guys.

Crank I have hauled my 65 Impala on one of those u-haul tow dollies.My 65 is just about the same width as your 64 just put stock tires on the front.I didn't rub but need to be careful when turning corners though.
