How should the hand throttle be connected to the carb? Pictures would help a lot please.

I realised this is the one thing on my truck that is not right yet.

I think originally the pull cable goes through a hole in the throttle lever with a ferrule with a locking screw on the far side. When you work the throttle the lever just slides over the cable but when you pull the cable the ferrule pulls on the throttle lever.

Some carbs might have a separate lever that the cable pulls that in turn pulls against the throttle lever and pivots on the throttle shaft. I was probably a high school student in auto shop class the last time I worked on one of those around 1965.

I should note that they aren't designed or intended as a "cruise control" they were intended for throttling the engine up to run the PTO when the truck was sitting still.

Just out of interest, how would the PTO be connected?

OK, I think I've figured it out.

I suspect the cable has to come vertically down into the same clamp that holds the choke cable.

The inner cable (solid core) then continues down THROUGH the rod that comes from below, between the intake manifold and the engine and connects to the throttle lever after a 90º turn.

What threw me off the track was that hole where the manual throttle is meant to go through, has a split pin in it, but I suspect the hand throttle inner cable should go through that hole with the locking screw below the rod.

I'll attempt this and revert. I might even use this to convert to a cable operated foot throttle. The current linkages interfere with the brake pedal causing an rpm increase when braking = not good.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
