WOW. I found 1 Regular a couple of days ago, and bought 6 loose Regulars from a Facebook site. NO Super yet.
Did you find the "unspun" in the same place?

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Unspun, also called unrivet, is where the body was not attached at the factory. All bodies have posts that go through the chassis. When they attach them together at the factory they run it through a drill like tool with a special tip that they press down onto the bottom of the posts (like they are drilling it) and the friction heats up the stud as they push it down creating a mushroom head that keeps the body & chassis mated together. An unspun is where that procedure is skipped for whatever reason. Therefore the body just sits on the chassis & you can take them apart anytime you want.

Nice job shortening, and everything else.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

thank you! being an engineer I'll get it perfect eventually.
Toughest part was shortening the bed and lifting (lowering axle centers in frame that also had to be sectioned. bed had to be cut at each end requiring saving the tailgate, and the head of the bed. the chassis still needs work as well. Building epoxy for a front diff, and also trying to cobble leaf springs.
lastly trying to find some wheels that look closer to the blazer spokes I'm running.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

What will you use to carve the rear, etc? A dremel tool? I've seen painted spoke wheels with real riders. 90/87 Formula did some wheel swaps using those. I think they came from "CARS" replicas. Check out this thread for customs:

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Good info I see a trip to wally world is in order. I may look at wheels that I can "build up" the ralley style. Spokes from one car, center cap from another and beauty ring from another. Each would need to be carefully cut and "thinned" to make it right. I'll see what I can do.
The thread you posted has some nice builds!
For the chassis I'll do some carving with a dremel and more painting, maybe even add sheet-metal leaf springs and wire driveshafts. Detail painting for the emblems and lights.
Interesting thing is on the original truck, all the trim and lights are just paint, no embossing into the metal.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

That's kind of good they come smooth. I remember sanding trim off of drag car models. I see you got rid of that chrome (silver paint) they put around all the windows in error. That bothered me from the first offering. I'd like to get into more detail with these than I have. But, keeping it simple got it done. Once I retire I hope to get into modeling again.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I just figured since I was the last person to post in this forum one month and a day ago I'd post something up. Hot Wheels was cranking out all the Chevy Trucks and lately it has been dead. I don't think I've bought a one this whole year. I missed a farm toy show where I probably would have bought a GL.

Oh that's right. They came out with that purple Custom 69 Chevy hat is so ugly I don't want to buy one. So much for having them all. Now I wish they really hadn't come out with anything new

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right thread but I compiled a list of the 67-72 C-10s in Highway 61's 1/18 scale die-cast lineup. I hear the Highway 61 molds were bought by Acme/Greenlight, so future releases will be under that name, but these do appear on ebay occasionally. I will have a couple to sell soon - I will let you guys know.

Look at the first couple of pages of this thread. There are pictures of a resin body and the USPS panel. Which as far as I know are all that's out there.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Thanks for the help guys. I found both a USPS and a NAPA Auto Parts Panel Truck on eBay and bought the cheapest ones. I know this is dumb, but I plan on converting them to Suburbans. Mainly, cut out windows, paint them to model what I want my truck to look like, then add small pieces of plexiglass, maybe paint the interior and put in some plastic seats. I'll post some pics of the process and finished product if you guys want.

You need to post them in the 67-72 Parts For Sale section and I think they will sell very quickly as you have them priced right.
