My 1971 K20 Project

Well I've been a member of a couple of years now. Not quite as long as I have owned my truck. I guess it took me a while to get going on this project. But it is moving along quite quickly now.

Where to start.

I purchased my 71 K20 on Ebay back in 2011 as a project that would eventually replace my 2009 Dodge Ram as my family truck. This particular truck was a farm truck for a few years. It was purchased as a project by a nice man in Utah with intent on a restoration. I think he lost interest when he finally understood what it would take to just get it running an reliable on the road. Si I believe he gave up and put it on E-Bay where I won it with a bid of $3,150....which might have been more than I should have paid for it. I drove up to the beautiful Salt Lake City area and trailered it home. It sat for about 6 months before I had time to get it registered here in California.

This is where all the demons started to rise up, as part of the requirements for registration a weight on an official scale was required...this means I had to drive the thing to the scales.

Before I could even start it up I knew it needed a new battery, but whit I found out later was, During that drive the brakes failed, the truck sputtered, the water pump leaked. What a rusty mess I just bought.
I spend 2 weekends fixing everything I thought it would need to be a relable driver ....that included a new master cylinder, new plugs, new wires, a new distributor, a new water pump, a new fan and clutch assembly, a new Edelbrock carburetor, new roller tip rocker arms (the valves were rattling something fierce)...

It's amazing what the basics will do for a 43 year old truck.

I have since fixed 80% of the rust, replaced the entire interior with new Scat seats, carpet, headliner, dash pad door panels, old school Alpine stereo (with knobs) stripped all the old paint, replaced all the brake pads, new springs, shocks, wheels, tires.

All I have left is the paint and body work, the new under truck gas tank kit, new bumpers, and grille, weather-stripping . I can see the finish line from here

That's my favorite wheel. They look good on your truck.
