Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

Bump this one back up. I've been searching here for tire sizes. Unfortunately photosuckit has wrecked many threads and build's. My 3" drop axel will be here this week, so I'm in the market for some new tires. Found some lightly used BFG's on Craigslist. 225/60/15 (25"dia x 8.9"w) & 255/60/15 (27"dia x 10"w). My new to me wheels are 15 x 7 & 15 x 8.5. I did 2" drop shackles in the rear and am considering pulling a few leaves once I see how low the front is. I may need to hold off on tires but the BFG's are a good deal. I'm concerned that a 25" tire up front will look too small. I have been running 235/75/15 (28.5" dia) all around at stock height. Orge also pointed out that it can be difficult to stuff a wide rear tire in the lowered rear wheel wells. I'm not looking to slam it, just adjust the attitude a bit and I do want a little rake. So...can we see some more wheel and tire pics...

That's a sharp looking truck Hover! Is it stock height or have you done something to the front end?

Mustang ll was in it when I bought it. I put 2" drop spindles on the front, then removed some rear leaves and 2" drop shackles for the rear.

Cool, do you remember how many and which leaves you removed, I've read plenty of conflicting information on the subject. It's got a nice stance.

It had 8 leaves in each side, I removed 3 from each side. I can't remember which ones but I know I left the top 2 alone. Does not bottom out on bumps. Watch your wheel size and back spacing. There's not a lot of room to play with.

Sweet truck black sheep, your brother would be stoked with what you are doing I'm sure! Axle and hanger flip out back and IFS up front, looks like he put a lot of work into the stance it's got, I dig it. Thanks for posting.

Hover, I took a look a my rear leaves and I see which 3 are the most logical to pull. While I was messing with my truck I decided to pull the shortest leaf off my front pack, probably only good for the thickness of the spring & softening the ride. I saw another one I could pull as well but not sure if I want to yet. I think I'll bolt up the drop axle first, work on the rear and make a decision then.

Keep 'em coming...

Re: wheels & tires for 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 truck

Just wanted to say - whatever you do - DO NOT special order wheels from a company named Wheels V------- . We ordered custom back spaced wheels in the Artillery style - very cool looking wheels. I rolled truck out of garage - went 25 feet - and both front wheels came apart !!! The rings or hoops were only tack welded on the centers !!! It took 2 days to communicate with the company. They did pay to have all 4 wheels shipped back - along with the 2 damaged tires. They stripped off my paint job and rewelded them properly (I hope !!) and then they painted the rims. What a suck paint job !!! They should have powder coated them for us !! They did nothing extra - did not even send anything extra to my buddy in the form of an apology !! We could have been hurt in an accident - or hurt someone else. 25 feet from going onto the road !!!

Hey Bob, here's a pic of my buddy's truck when he got it, he ran 31 x 10.5 on the rear and 30 x 9.5 up front. He didn't have issues to my knowledge, I believe he ran the smaller ones up front so they didn't stick out so much, but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone else has some experience as well.

BS - thanks for the heads up but I've already got my wheels, I'm more interested in tire sizes to see how they fill out the wheel wells.

I received my drop axel from Sid's today and started the install after work. A couple more hours and I should be ready to see the new stance. I'll throw my 235/75/15's back on and see how it looks, then pull a few leaves out of the rear. The tires I've been eyeing are still for sale so I need to get on it. Between work and family I only have Tues and Thurs after work to play with the Apache so finding a couple hours to work on it is going to be the hard part...
