I bet this is why people go to Disc Brakes in the rear!

The 14bolt axles on my 76 & my T400 have the slots in the backer plates.
I'd leave the drum as-is for balance reasons... but I'm not above doing some amateur machining on the back plates with a cobalt drill bit and a file.

All my trucks have no backing plate hole for adjustment. You pull the drum, adjust, then install the drum and check. Pretty simple really.

Mine has the adjustment slot in drum accessed from outside. Have to rotate wheel to 6 o'clock position for adjustment. Do not need to remove wheel.

This Not a Canadian thing as Canada does not make break parts as (drums/rotor, pads/ shoes) or there all USA made out source to Asia to save money. The one with no hole you got are cheaper drums or your meant to pop out the knock hole.
