Question LT1/LS1 Engine Management

I have an LT1 and 4L60E transmission from a 96 Trans-am WS6 for installation in my 52 Chevy truck. The truck will have all power options/AC/cruise control/etc. The engine/trans will remain stock but I want to clean it up by removing any/all the smog stuff I can. I have the original computer and harness from the TA, but the harness does have some damage from an accident. I would like to get some ideas/advise on how others have dealt with installing the LT1/LS1 into non pollution required vehicles. What pollution control items can I remove and how did you handle the computer/harness as far as re-programmed or replacing the entire engine management system

An aftermarket harness is the way to go, it will save you time, money and headaches. Most are very simple to hook up. There are many companies out there:

Street and Performance
Painless
Howell Engineering (this is the one I used, but all are good companies)

I have a 5.3 Vortec and 4l60e tranny in my '56 Burb. I just mailed my harness and PCM to http://www.wait4meperformance.com/ for him to modify the harness as a stand alone and reflash the PCM for $340 includes return shipping. I learned about Jess Bubb owner from another forum that had nothing but high praises about his work. Good luck.

Thanks. This is all good information. I hope it keeps going as I like being informed before I make my decision.

I would still like to know what I can get rid of in the smog department. I want to put headers on the truck and based on what I've read I should keep the o2 sensors on the exhaust but can get rid of the rear o2 sensors since I will not run catalytic converts. I am also thinking I can get rid of the air pump, and egr. Like to have your opinions.

Just so you know, MegaSquirt will not allow you to control timing on a LS1 motor with coil on cyclinder design. Nor will it allow sequencial fuel injection only batch or bank fire systems.
It is great for controlling fuel in a boosted LS1 design when you have gone past the air volume max on the Mass Air Flow meter but it won't allow you to do a lot of the simple stuff that LS1Edit or HPTuners will...
