I bought the ps kit from chevy duy last year for my fathers 55 cameo, and I wanted to see if anyone could confirm what years/models the parts needed to come from....its a 350 now....can I use parts from any small block chevy?

Also, how hard is this system to install....no welder onsite.....can I bolt everything down, and have him weld it in later? (700 mile trip...can bolt up...but not weld up when I am gone).

Any help would be appreciated....looking at a setup from an olds 70's 442...but the kit is kind of open in the description, all it says is passenger cars....heck, my camaro is a 'passenger car'!....and mid 60's???? come on!

I don't know what that kit includes but you do need to weld the tab on the frame prior to driving it any distance.

To the best of my knowledge passenger car boxes mount on the inside of the frames and you need one that mounts on the outside of the rail. 73 -87 GM truck. go here to see the install. http://www.classicperform.com/power2.htm

I am specifically asking about a setup I came across for a 78-83 cutlass 442, anyone know if this would work? It had a sbc in it, so the brackets should work....pulley, box???
Its a chevy duty kit incase anyone has installed this kit....I will be calling them shortly, if no one here has any ideas

most likely the steering box is a typical saginaw box which GM uses. the kit is not all thet hard to install as i put on on my 54 i sold last year. But as for myself i wouldnt do it again, dont get me wrong its nice to have p/s, i did install a steering stablizing shock cuz of the real quick steering and lots or roll around corners which i didnt like.should have a swaybar mounted but i didnt see of any kits on the market at the time i installed the kit. another thing to me the box should have been mounted lower on the frame, cuz of the draglink angle, at times hitting hard while going over a pothole but then thars typical on Pa roads. when i get the money up to get my 81 i just bought together on the road im gonna look for another 50's truck, and im gonna mat up a new column to the older factory box and try what another board member had told what back in the day they would shorten the stock pitman arm to get easier steering or just subframe it, again poeple do what they want w/ their own vehiclesbu either way hope it works out w/ whatever you decide to do main thing is think of safety

There are three types of saginaw 800 box. A three hole right side mount a 4 hole right side mount and a 4 hole left side mount. the 73 -87 truck is a 4 hole left side mount meaning it mounts to the left side of the left frame rail. that is what he needs. Most cars mount on the right side of the left frame rail in side the rail and it won't work on a 3100 truck.

The other kit, one I have been looking at, uses a toyota 4X4 box. A couple of brackets, enlarging the stock hole and a GM pump etc. It is mounted in the same area as the stock steering box. All the demensions are about the same as the stock box but it is power steering. susposed to give the same amount of bump steer and clearance as the stock box. and you don't have the extra length or ujoints with the box mounted up front. I can't remember the company that sell it. Has any one else used it?
