Lower ball joint
The other day I noticed I had picked up a nail or screw in my tire. I was readying myself to remove the wheel and take it down to be patched. It turns out I had a short sheet metal screw in the tread that was only about 3/16" long. I thought I dodged a bullet there; not so fast. While I had each front wheel jacked up and turning the wheel by hand to check for any other things in the tread I also rocked the wheel back and forth. The pass. side is tight but the driver's side has about 1/8" of play. A closer inspection revealed a split in the boot of the lower driver's side ball joint. I wasn't looking forward to any projects like this right now.

Re: Lower ball joint
I looked up my records and I replaced the front axles and hubs seventeen years ago. Wow! I double-checked to see if it could be done easier and it looks like the axles and hubs have to come out to allow the stud to come out of the knuckle. A lot of work for this old guy.

Re: Lower ball joint
I am NOT looking forward to doing my next ball joint replacement. Hopefully none of mine will come due soon, but I still do not look forward to it.
Oh,just had a "blast" helping a friend change out his passenger axle/knuckle. I hold my tongue on the engineering design
