Add 3rd Seat-'99 Tahoe ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just curious, is it possible to add a third row seat to a '99 Chevy Tahoe that did not come with it from the factory? Our Tahoe seats five legally (front buckets with console and center seat) and comfortably but there are times I wish it had a 3rd row seat. What would be involved to make it safe, legal and comfortable? Tahoe has only 129K, cloth interior and is loaded. Don't really want to trade up for a 3rd seat version right now, this one is paid for and runs great.

Well, I know for a fact that on the 2000-2006 Tahoes adding the third row is as simple as getting the seat then taking a knife and notching out the carpet where the floor mounts are for the seat. I believe it to be the same for the 1999 but best thing to do is to either lift up the carpet in the rear and see if the mounts are there or feel around for the mounts thru the carpet. There will be a low spot in the carpet/floor. Might even be able to crawl underneath and look up at the floor, if the mounts are there you should see them protruding from the floor. Otherwise you would have to use a different seat one that would sit flat on the floor then mark and drill holes for the bolts. Then us use large thick washers to prevent the bolts from pulling thru the floor in the event of a wreck.

Thanks for the reply. After I posted that I got even more curious and googled "add 3rd seat tahoe" and found several listings that seem to mention it is pretty cut and dried for 2000 - 2007 models. Nothing mentioned about the 1999, guess will have to look into that when wife gets home with the Tahoe. Thanks again.

I did this to my 98 tahoe by yanking the buckets out of the floor of a suburban and welding them into my tahoe

Welding in a set of seats wouldn't be an option since at times I lay down the seats to haul larger items. At times I miss my ol' full sized '91 4x4 Suburban.

Yes, the '99 is the old body style as I've heard it referred to as that.

The 3rd row in a suburban is a removable seat that slides in and latches so you can pull it out and have a smooth floor again when needed. We just fold a section of the rear seat down to access the 3rd row
