I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

Its been a while since I have posted anything. My last build was a 63 C10 that was on the cover of many magazines and made into a Hot Wheels.
This 1964 is going in the other direction. The exterior will sport the "patina" it has. Taking a 350/350 from a 70 Camaro, move gas tank, changing to a tilt column, hidden stereo, stock bench seat but recovered, stock 15 inch rally wheels with new tires, new windshield, disc brakes up front, all new ball joints bushings etc, 4/5 static drop, and a few other goodies.
For the last 6 years I have read stories and looked at project here, but its time to get back in the game. My 63 C10 has been sold many times and is somewhere in Canada now. This truck is not going to be a show truck, it will be a daily driver.
Short back story on this 64 C10. It is a short bed. I got it from a "car hoarder" here in AZ. The truck suspension was sitting on the ground without wheels and tires and partially burred. The car next to it caught fire about 12 years prior and blistered the paint on my truck. It took a week of moving cars to get this truck out. Giving it a second life, my way!

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

Welcome back

Your '63 was always one of my favorites.

It looks like you found a decent truck to build into a driver. Hopefully that fire didn't get hot enough to anneal the sheetmetal. I see you have already made some progress with the front disc brakes.

I love how the patina is in a line. I assume that's from the fire.. Very cool.

Any links to the 63?

Link to my 63 http://markbarbee.com/pictures/c10/index.htm

In the past the administrators get mad when I put my website up because I am not a sponsor. I do not sell anything on my website and I am not a business, so hopefully they don't take this down.

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

I finished the front disc brake conversion. I removed all the wood and bed rails. Removed the bed from the frame. I mounted the new fuel tank under the bed. The fuel tank was not too bad. I had to remove the spare tire mount and open up the four factory holes a bit. I am waiting on new spring retainers so I can install the rear suspension. Should be here this week. Had to power wash the 10lbs of dirt off the rear suspension and frame. I guess the dirt did a good job of preserving the truck???
Anyone have pictures of shocks mounted up front in stock location? Thank you.

Just looked in on your website...... www.markbarbee.com and the stuff you did before, and after???!

JUST WOW !!

Hope you do not mind Mark, but I thought a look back at what you did before, in photos would let people know what they are signing up for.

Did you ever set out to build a show winner?

Starting with this?

This.... Has to be a massive honour.

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

Thanks Grizz1963

This build will not be to that caliber. My 63 C10 was a show truck. Of course that was not my initial intention, but it ended up that way. I did not have kids when I built that truck and I had shop space to build it. My 64 C10 will be a daily driver. My grandpa was a big influence on me and he drove a 65 C10. I have many great memories in his truck going fishing and shooting. My plan with this project is to give my two girls some memories with Dad. Eventually I will ad goodies like power steering and A/C. I am taking the A/C controls out of the Camaro donor.

This build will be fun and I plan on driving it by the end of the year.

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

I had only a couple hours to spare today. Today I put new spring retainers on the rear with new BellTech drop springs and shocks (drop is a 4/5). I also had to 'fix' the front passengers shock mount and now the front shocks are mounted. I went to put my stock wheels and new tires on and one of the new tires is flat. I bought from Discount Tire and one of the other wheels already did this. They just need to add bead sealer. So until I do that the front passenger wheel is not mounted. The front end is still high because there is no motor in the truck and the springs need to settle.

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

I also noticed I will need a hub ring spacer. The disc brake hub is fron 1972 and I guess those wheels had smaller hubs. I am keeping my stock wheels.

Slow going over the last week. Got the new motor mounts in yesterday. Working on getting the new transmission cross member in. The stock cross member is a pain to remove.

Re: I'm back with another C10 build!!!!!

I took my frustrations out on the stock transmission cross member. This was the most labor intensive thing thus far. It took a ton of work. I do not have a torch so I used a reciprocating saw, cut off wheel, and air chisel.

Now I have to figure out how to get this Performance Online transmission cross member installed. The engine mounts went in very easily. I have not figured out the puzzle yet. Any help would be appreciated. I called their tech support and they told me "just use a lot of muscle."
