TinyCAD: My Electrical Schematics

Sorry I've been gone for a while but as you're about to see, I've been busy...

In an effort to find out where to drill all of the holes in the truck for my wiring before I paint it, I got carried away and made a complete set of schematics for the beast. This adventure began with a hand-drawn picture, but then I started looking for a free drawing package. That's when I found TinyCAD.

TinyCAD is a completely free Open Source electrical drawing package, complete with an extensive symbol table. You can download it here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tinycad/

This program is NOT a come-on to buy the real program. It IS the real program. I used it for about 20 hours without a crash or glitch.

Here are the schematics I generated (13 sheets). I did them by location on the truck so I could see where the wires go (i.e., as they run off the page). I also know that someday I'll have to fix an electrical problem and these just might come in handy.

Note also that, unlike most auto schematics, the signals tend to come into the page from the left and go out to the right.

Hope this helps somebody.

Bob

Yup. '55 2nd series. The system is based on an American Autowire Highway 22. This application uses all of the outputs, but there's still enough power to piggy-back if I add any more toys.

I didn't think the geek part showed, but I guess it does. I'm just an old hayseed out here in the country...

tinyCAD is targeted at electrical stuff, but you could do other things too. Works good under Win7 64-bit, and I'm sure also on the old 32-bit. You can add your own symbols and libraries too.

That is absolutely my error on page 12. Good eye Rude Dude! It's a drawing error. I know it has to be on the + side of the battery, and is even in the name "Radio/DVD Mem +". (I hoped this post was going to help someone, but I didn't know it was going to be ME!)

Here's the updated drawing for those who want it...

On friday at work we were trying to find a flight control wiring problem on a fighter jet talk about schematic nightmares, so cars are kinda simple to me.

I used to work on F-4 Phantom radar, then machine tool controls. I can relate. I just wish I still had some talent so I could get a job.

Awesome thanks for sharing the link,I have wanted to challenge my students to draw wiring diagrams this will help me do it. Might have to start with my own truck since I am using wiring harness from 3 different vehicles.

If you do, you will want the .dns files from me. I'm not sure if it's OK to post them here since it would be 13 more files. I guess if it's helpful it would be OK.

Re: TinyCAD: My Electrical Schematics

Ordered my American Autowire harness today frm MusleRodz.com 405-414-1072. They are listed on the vendor forum list. 15% off thru April 30. Now I have the wiring to go with your diagrams.

I will send you a PM with my email and get the files from you.

Thanks,

Re: TinyCAD: My Electrical Schematics

Thanks to all for the comments. I thought I'd also mention that my lifelong friends Rick and Weezie Bailey run "Bailey's Garage" on Ebay, and he is an American Auto Wire representative:

If you want to do business with people who are trustworthy and carry a lot of Chevy parts they would be a good choice.
