Finally my own garage/shop

This thing has been in the works for months. Getting permits is a big hassle. Its not the Garagemahall some of you guys have. Because of set back rules etc etc I couldn't have a larger one, plus we couldn't have afforded a larger one anyway...lol. My honey is paying for the structure and cement. I have to do the rest myself. 18 x 28, I should be able to work on my panel in there just fine.

Re: Finally my own garage/shop

You'll have plenty enogh room in there for the panel, just hope it don't end up like my garage. 2 four wheelers, lawnmower, garden tools...well you get the picture. Good Luck ans it'll be done before you know it.

We have two car garage attached to the house now. That will be where all the mowers etc will be. This is SUPPOSED to be for my stuff only...lol...but you're probably right, other stuff is going to migrate in there.

That will be real nice when finished, but how did you talk your honey into paying for some of it? I feel very lucky when mine makes me a egg sandwich. I want a new honey!

Re: Finally my own garage/shop

I am SO jealous. I am in the process of looking thru plans (Home Owner's ASSociation approved) to build a 24' x 32' with a bonus room upstairs. As you can imagine, having to build it to meet code of the HOA makes it about 3 times more expensive.

Some day.

On my shop part of the deal was we would have a section of the shop to put
lawn stuff etc. but it will be walled off from the "project" area . So it can't grow and creep or "migrate"

Re: Finally my own garage/shop

Exterior will be the same stuff thats on that small shed in the pic, I forgot what its called. This summer I will go over that with siding that matches the house. Inside will be wired up and then insulated with finished drywall topping it off. Ill build a small enclosure outside to put my air compressor. Ill pipe in hard lines for the air last.

I had a pretty large income tax bill I wasn't expecting. I usually have it nailed down to plus or minus a hundred bucks. The things I listed Im going to do will have to be stretched out a bit longer than I wanted. Overall though Im pretty darn happy with it.

Don't forget to frame up the pad for your air compressor when you're pouring concrete. Also a walkway if needed. There will be some left over from the pour I'm sure.

Re: Finally my own garage/shop

Progress has been slow. It was actually halted for a while by the city. They said it was supposed to have a metal roof not a comp roof. Well it was never in the plans to put metal, but they were being stinky about it so the building company had to submit engineering plans to show the plywood and composition was just fine and wouldnt collapse the whole building. There were a bunch of other little nitpicky things to take care of too.

Got the concrete poured about a week and a half ago. Im still waiting for the final check offs by the city. They may want us to have the gutter downspouts drain into some sort of underground set up.

Next we have to apply for the electrical permit (thats not done by the city). Soon as thats all done I'm going to insulate and dry wall. Then paint and put in all the storage and work bench. Lastly I will paint the floor. I wont start doing anything in there until thats all done. If I move my stuff in before hand I will never get it finished the way I really want it.

I parked my 4x4 in there just to see how much room Im going to have while putting my panel back together. I think there is plenty of room. Im relieved...lol. These long wheel base trucks are pretty darn big.

Yeah our attached garage is the same. Plus it gets stuffed full of lawn mowers and yard junk. We also have a bunch of larger size woodworking tools...table saw etc etc.

This garage is for my projects only...hopefully it will stay that way

My neighbor just put up a new shop not that long ago. 40X48X16. It has a 16WX14H overhead door of the front and a 10WX1H overhead door on the back., Just wish it was mine.
