Is it wrong to say.....

When people proclaim to have a truck on Ebay with "NO Reserve" and then have an initial bidding price of $XXXX dollars, isn't that contradicting yourself? I thought no reserve meant the item could sell at any dollar amount. Any opinions?

Yes and no, no reserve meens it *will* sell, no matter what. (if there is a bid), a reserve meens it might sell, if the price is right. The opening bid is what the seller wants to start the bidding at, i.e. the lowest possible amount s/he will accept for it.

with the inital price being XXXXX, the person is being upfront with you and saying, I want at least this much, with a hiddent reserve, the seller is saying, "will you pay the amount I think it's worth?"

Agree with Solarus1981, the price he is showing is where he wants the bidding to begin................

Reserve could be any amount and when the reserve was met, that statement would change to: Reserve Met.
