Rad Core support question

Can anybody answer this?
Are 67-72 GMC core supports all the same? Are they the same as 67-68 Chevy supports with the exception to the headlight buckets?
I'm looking at buying a 72 gmc tomorrow, it has a perfect support on it. would like to know if I can use the core support on my 67 chevy.

NO!!! GMC has 4 head lights.... Chev has 2 ...nothing on the front will work on your 67.

..................what happens when you remove the buckets from a GMC support? will it then work as a 67/68 chevy support? providing you make the square holes for the headlight adjusters?

No, the entire support is stamped to accomodate the 4 headlight buckets. I looked at that on mine since I am going from a GMC to a Chev. Couldn't see any way to make it work. I believe the 67-68 Chev supports are a little different than the 69-72 also aren't they Will?? Something with headlight placement?

It's much cheaper just to buy a new Chev core support, but you will probably need other things depending on the grille you choose.

Yes, the 67-68 core is different from the 69-72. Again, headlight buckets as well as the air dam on the 67-68. It would require cutting and welding buckets to get a swap. There may be other differences I haven't noted.

I bought a new core that was a Goodmark one. Really, Really didn't like it. The nuts were on the wrong sides of the skin. In other words, instead of a bolt going throught the skin into the square nut, it would pass through the nut first. Think about the angle bracket that bolts to the fender. Instead of sitting flush to the core, it would sit against the square nuts. I was sure it would cause alignment problems. Returned it and searched this board for a decent OEM one. (my 2 cents).

I'd love to hear of someone using one successfully.

I had the same experience with the core support from Goodmark.

Here's the deal..............

I notified Goodmark of the problem, they looked into it and found they had a run that was done wrong.

They got back in touch with me and sent me a corrected one free of all charges, including the shipping right to my door.

Don't know if this helps you now, but I feel as if they did good by me.

And the fit of the new one was good. You are right on the alignment, everything was about 1/4" off. I tried before realizing the problem.

Thanks Blue Beard. I'm glad to hear that wasn't the intention. I found a good OEM support in Georgia some time after sending it back. I found it hard to believe that anyone thought that would work very well. I even called a few well know suppliers and builders of our trucks that sold the part to see if they had ever even tried to install one. Shame on me for not calling Goodmark. I just worked throught the seller. My inner fenders from them fit well enough though.

thanks for the replies everone. I think I'm just gonna try and find a good used one or buy a new one for my 67. Maybe I'll run across someone that has a good one and needs a good GMC support .... maybe .... just maybe ....
