Question about rear brakes

I just replaced my rear brakes and noticed mine did not have the strut with the spring. Does a 65 require one are have one?

yes, without it brakes will not work correctly.

Its amazing what has been removed by previous owners over the years, I`ve seen dual master cylinders installed on one truck, and a tee fitting installed in the frame rail, owner said he installed a split system, well after a few hits on the brake pedal the system would just collaspe, ( brake fluid would just recycle back to master cylinder and no brakes )..... so who knows what goes on in the minds of others...nothing meant or implied here....

Send me a pic (circle the part) or drawing of what you want....is it the metal bar that runs between the inside of the shoes? I have to look but if so I may have one or two. I think I kept 2 off of Ol John Lee. If you need the e-brake strut, I think I have 2. If its the adjuster wheel strut, I think I have two. If I got it, its yours.

Is this it? If so pm an address and I'll drop them in the mail. One spring lost a tit but it still functions right. Both are from a 64 C10 and look just like the ones on the rear of my 65 brake assemblies.

OK so call me silly. But the struts are for the parking brake only, the way everything looks. So if that's the case this may explain why its not there. Who ever owned it before me removed the parking brake.

Yer right, I mis spoke, rear brake only...tired from wrenching and breaking stuff on the 65 all day!!! Corrected my post and got yer address via pm. I'll get these in the mail Tue/Wed for ya.

Just reread yer post above. I have a full set of cables for ebrake and the center pivot bar and the handle in the cab. What I don't have is the pin that connects the brake cable to the cab handle and I did not recover the ebrake crossmember assembly from the frame. I even have the ebrake levers that go on the rear shoes and hook up to the cables.

Do ya need most of an ebrake set up for a 64/65 that still has the original ebrake crossmember on the frame? If so, give me a call one evening before 9 PM EST.

Heres the other struts I have for rear brakes - Off a 64 C10...looks the same as my new 65. 2 are for the ebrake, 2 are to activate the star wheel adjusters.



Here is the ebrake handle off my 64, looks the same as the one on my 65...only thing I don't have is the pin that connects the cable to the brake handle..spect ya could make one from a clevis pin.



This is the ebrake pivot hardware from my 64. It functions, ebrake cable hooks to one end, both rear brake cables hook to the other end. What I don't have is the original crossmember that this pivot assembly connects to...that went with the frame when it sold.



Here are the left and right rear ebrake cable assemblies off my 64. Neither appears to have frayed cables or broken strands, both functioned perfectly. The fingers on the tits that secure it to the backing plate are unbroken so both will snap in. Also attached is the clamps that bolt the cable sheath to the outside of each of the rear truck arms.



Here is the cable that runs from the ebrake handle to the center pivot assembly. Again, no known broken or frayed strands and the fingers on the tit that snaps into the frame are not broken so the sheath will snap in and stay there.



Basically, as I indicated in my parting out ad tonight, all this stuff is excess and unneeded by me now. If it sits here too long its gonna get lost or tossed or damaged. Better its in service somewhere else. If you need any of this stuff just say so and make an offer and pay shipping. I'll use flat rate as much as I can to keep the cost down.

Of course, much of this might not work for ya if you don't still have the pivot crossmember on the frame. Hopefully that wasn't cut out on yours.

Folks keep asking on prices, and I'll give one but really, make an offer and pay the shipping, we'll be fine and I ain't likely to get insulted on any fair offers. I can't value this stuff for others cause I been outta the car game for years. And, its pretty much of low value to me cause I don't need it. I spect if I did need somethin, other folks would do what they offered for me when Ol John Lee was wrecked....they'd offer parts at resonable prices and in several cases, for the cost of shipping only or even free. Now Ol John Lee is livin on in over a dozen C10s all over the USA.
