1964 Chevy c-10 build "Carla Marie"

Well I've been on here for a while now and might as well put my build thread on.

1964 Chevy c-10 short fleet bed. All original minus tires and wheels when I purchased it. straight 6 with 3 on the tree. Small backwindow. It did run and I drove it home in the snow.

Dropped it and painted the wheels. Redid the wood in the bed with red oak. Ditched the inline for a 350 s.b. Had fun in it over the summer and blew up the stock 3 speed. Decided to put an auto in it and drive it, but I just kept digging deeper into it..

Z'd the front rails 4" and the back rails 10". Built a new trailing arm crossmember and located the arm mounts up 6" and back 3/4" (Centers the wheel in the fender). Moved the motor back 10" in the frame and lowered it untill the pan is 1" above the frame rails. Plan to run a Mustang II rack and mount the front bumper upside down. In the rear would like to make a storage box behind the rear axle.

Braced the cab and cut out the stock floor. Made a new rear cab crossmember and new boxed inner rockers. Still need to make the "dog house" for the engine and cut out the stock firewall and make a new one. Enjoy the pics

It's a dune buggy spun alluminum tank 13 1/2 gallon. I had to cut up the center strip to allow the pickup on the tank to poke through the bed floor. From there I tapped into the stock hard line on the frame with some 3/8" rubber line. Never had an issue.

Cool truck and cool pics Daveodom. Everybody is always worried about distributor clearance in the rear engine position.....looks like an easy 'fix'!!!!

Running a 29" tall tire and 3/4" tall bumpstops. Still have about 1/4" til the axle hits the stops when the frame is on the ground. I never notched the stock rails. I wanted a little breathing room for the diff and the bed floor.

I hear you on the clearances.....much needed for the TA's.....looks good rather than the traditional deep notch

Wow. What a transformation. Beautiful fab and welding work - built like a tank. Hope you’re going to recreate the ‘Carla Marie’ logo on the bed sides when you’re finished.

Re: 1964 Chevy c-10 build "Carla Marie"

Other than being able to reach down and adjust your timing on the fly from the cab hahahaha, is there a reason for the engine being back so far or is it one of those just becaue you can?

Or is it because you can flatten out the cross member and lay farther down?

I would think it would improve handling and weight transfer as well.....
