Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

Man I just need 3 trucks so I can do all 3, well really 4 now haha. How long until that new option is available?

And good to know about tire size, I wasn't sure if the air bag install limited that or not.

And one more question, can the tubular a-arms be upgraded later? Thinking about going ahead and ordering my front dropmember with all upgrades besides the a-arms and then ordering the arms later on, if possible.

Yes. Nate designed his suspension systems to work with the stock arms. You can always add the tubular arms later.

Ken-

I need to clarify this a little... the Extreme version Dropmember will work with factory uppers from 63-87 and factory lowers from 73-87 C10 only.

The Mild and Touring variations MUST be run with our tubular control arms.

Nate

So with my touring and the 1" narrowed arms my track width is narrowed 1.25" per side, the same as the extreme with regular arms.
I'm running the identical setup on my 72 Suburban as Bennett68C10. Exact same "touring" dropmember, tire height, narrowed PB arms, etc... so I'd have plenty of clearance for my LS 6.0 and 4L80E without having to change more than the tranny tunnel to the big block version. I can confirm what Bennett stated. My set up lays frame with the 28" front tire on 20's, no problem. In fact, my setup is about the exact same phase as Bennett's last picture. Nicely done!!!

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

This is from a month or so ago. Again, that's a PB Touring front dropmember, 2.5" drop spindles, 1" narrowed tube upper and lower PB control arms, bags of course, and 20" wheels with 28" 255/40 20's. The pic speaks for itself hopefully, and that's just on jack stands with no weight on top (engine). All I can say is I LOVE my PB stuff!!! In fact, I'm already saving up for my C30 dually build where I'll be doing pretty much the same setup. My '68 C10 in the picture will be last. She's gonna be something a little special.

This is news to me. Can you expand on why they won't work? I was under the assumption you were ok to run factory arms unless using coil-overs?

There is rack to bushing pivot tube clearance issues with the factory lowers on the Mild and Touring DMs. The bushing and stamped steel surrounding it will contact the rack housing on the driver side.

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

I don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet... but I am also working on an airbag variation that will set the frame just under 1" off the ground as well. For those guys that love the lowered ride height but don't want it to be able to lay the frame all the way on the ground as well.

I know... I threw another option at you. Probably shouldn't have done that.

You can't go wrong with any of the versions... our most popular is the Extreme... second most popular is the Mild.

Nate[/QUOTE]

Hello Nate, I wanted to know if you ever finished the new number 4 top secret drop member? I spoke with Dave a while back on a mild but started thinking about going with an extreme. You have me now thinking about this 4th drop member because I don't really care to lay frame but at ride height on 24's I would love to have the stance of rwade's red and white C10.

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

I'm going to bring up this old thread. I've about decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on the mild DM. With a complicated steering linkage am I going to fun into any issues? Has this been changed since the thread started? Any issues with the steering linkage and headers?

Also I'm now curious as to what this new DM entails? Like I need another thing to look into but I don't want to order the mild and regret not waiting for the new DM.

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

I just recently installed the Extreme Dropmember. I too started out higher but got the itch and had to go lower.
I haven't driven my truck yet but so far I'm happy with the install.
One thing that I will mention that if you do the extreme setup, you will probably have to do electric radiator fans. I'm not sure about the mild DM but the extreme DM raised my engine too high to line the stock fan up with my stock radiator sthroud. I don't know if this applies to a mild DM or not.
I also had to get new headers. My Hedman headers no longer worked because they hit the bottom front of the cab.

Going to have to change that back to a stock pan. The reason why I went with the touring front is because I'm running a big block/th400 drivetrain and didn't want any clearance issues. Nate told me the extreme would work but I would have more clearance with the touring. I haven't gotten to the steering shaft but I'm confident with the help of some pics and instruction that Nate sent me I can conquer it. A pic of how mine sits.
I wish they would have said there would be clearance issues with mine

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

Okay, bringing back an old thread, but I need some help. I have the 5th version Mild dropmember and I’ll be running a 468/700r4. What headers will work with this combo? I searched and didn’t find an answer.

I did that, but am still awaiting a response. I may just buy a set of chevelle headers to see if they fit. I can always return them if they don’t work...just out the shipping.

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

I would assume that’s Chevelle “mid-length” shorty headers.
No long tubes.
At least that’s what works in small block applications.

^^^ Keith, what’s the issue with long tubes? Remember, I’ve got a mild DM, not an extreme.

I heard back from Nate, but he didn’t actually answer my header question yet, as he wants a few pictures.

Most long tubes hang below the frame rails
I’m not sure how much the B.B. engine gets raised, from the factory position, with the mild or extreme Dropmember

Re: Extreme or Mild Dropmember

Thanks Keith, I’d already read that thread and that was one of the reasons I was leaning towards Chevelle headers. Just hadn’t seen a definitive answer on them with this DM. I just heard back from Nate and he confirmed they have been used by others. So, I ordered a set of Flowtech 31130BLT’s. I should know by Thursday evening if they’ll work.

Let me clarify, I bought blend directly from Holley for half price.
