One thing I did that might help you, I made a truck fund, it is still active too ( need paint) I added a little here and there through side jobs and selling some stuff, OT at work etc, etc. Sure enough it wasnt long before I had my funds to do the hobby stuff. It did take a bit, but my family nor my bills suffered. Good luck!

I'm just one of those guys that thinks it really is only money. You can't take it with you, and I think my family and I should enjoy what we have while we can. We are in relatively good health, bills are paid, we don't overextend ourselves, we keep the credit cards in check, etc...
I'm a "if I can't afford it, don't buy it" type of guy, and my wife is a very organized person, so together we have kept each other in check over the years. But parting with a couple grand for a toy takes a little thought.
