Re: Am I missing something or am I just an idiot?

Is it just me or do those look like wood screws? The countersink heads seem out of place for the application and the threads look like they're intended for wood, not steel. Looks like hardware we might use in our cabinet shop....

Re: Am I missing something or am I just an idiot?

I have noticed the screws we import, since we can't even make those, tend to break off at the head easily. I never had that happen with USA quality made hardware.

The bracket on the work bench is "backwards" simply for a demonstration photo.

I spent $3.00 on hardware at Ace and less than a minute drilling the holes out to mount the mirrors. Easy, but I guess I feel that it shouldn't have been necessary when you buy an item that is supposed to include the necessary hardware.

I can agree with the whole "Quality Control" issue. We have a vendor who supplies our power plant's replacement bolts, nuts , washers, etc...
There are many "Knock off" companies making "branded" fasteners, that appear to be U.S. made, but far from it...China/Taiwan....
We actually had a few bolts fail on some equipment and had samples sent out for hardness testing/shear strength, etc...most were grade 5 or above, but sometimes crap slips through the cracks. Better to buy the hardware from a reputable source, for any or all pieces/parts.
I bought all new "ARP" fasteners for my engine build, although it set me back a couple hundred dollars, it's one less thing to worry about.
Good luck with your build!

The screws should be oval head, not flat head. Totally Stainless is good source for quality fasteners. I'm lucky, they are up the road 45 minutes or so from me.
