Lengthening hood release cable?

Wondering if anyone has lengthened their hood release cable? I need to lengthen mine 6-8" so that it doesn't go over my newly powdercoated inner fenders and then I can route it along the side of the driver's side fender to keep the engine bay neat. I was thinking of cutting the cable about 8" from the hood release bracket, and splicing in a section to extend the hose. I was thinking of maybe using some Lokar parts, but haven't found anything truly suitable yet:

Go to a bike shop.
They deal in cables that might work.
Or have something for a splice kit.

Or try a big rig parts supply. They’ll have heavier stuff.

Re: Lengthening hood release cable?

I'm interested in this as well. My cable housing is broken right in the middle and the handle is broken. I wanted to buy a new cable, but I too want it to run along the driver's side instead of over the fender.

Might try a (70-72some) option bigger 73-87 GM B-Body car or Caddy 68-87 cable and handle. there longer and some have factory add on half way in the in-fender to the front fender ( two part cable ). You some time can mix and match the ends take pic's of yours both side go looking in the yards

Re: Lengthening hood release cable?

I found a 91 Suburban in the yard and discovered it has a slightly longer cable (buy about 18" or so" than a 73-80 cable. I've wasted a lot of time trying to make something custom so I'll probably just stick with this Suburban cable for now, even though it's not as long as I would like.

I also found a 73 Buick sedan (huge car) that has a longer cable) and then a 75 El Dorado but both of those cables have brackets that are totally different where they bolt to the interior. I've wasted enough time with this darn hood cable but I did grab the El Dorado cable incase I get energy in the future. I'd have to fabricate some sort of L-bracket since the handle looks like this:

Re: Lengthening hood release cable?

Please post pics of your routing when installed. I'm interested as my current one runs right across my battery.
