Chassis set up questions

So I've gotten to the point where I need to establish ride height. I know that I would like the truck to ride fairly low. I'm thinking that I would like to use 2 inch drop spindles on the G body front clip. I also think I'm going to use Paul Hortons triangulated four link to locate the rear. I have air ride technology shockwaves for all four corners. Rear wheels are 18 x 10 tires are 295/45/18's at 28.31 inches diameter. Fronts or 17 x 8 tires are 245/45/17's at 25.71 inches diameter. My questions are
1) is there any reason not to use drop spindles to lower the front end?
2) is there a specific spindle that you would recommend?
3) do you recommend setting up the frame with a rake?
4) am I on the right track to achieve the low stance with a good ride?

This is my first go at setting up a chassis and I would love to hear any and all input, suggestions, recommendations

Thanks,http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1419796361

Re: Chassis set up questions

Ride height is really where you feel comfortable, and like the look of how the truck sits. With your air setup, you should decide whether you want to drop the truck on the ground or not. If you want it on the ground, then your ride height will be established by the air system giving you a comfortable ride. Aired all the way up it will be far to stiff to drive. I am doing an all air ride truck now. With the bags deflated, the boards are on the ground. My ride height will be approx. 4" with the bags inflated at a decent level. This is with a 27" diameter tire. So you need to work from a deflated air system and figure out where you want the truck to sit.

Re: Chassis set up questions

ride height for hyway speed is best when the lower A arm is level, this lets the geometry of the suspension work for you
slow speed cruising or parking you can drag the frame

i myself prefer the look of a level ride, when i see rake i think poor planning
like the 70s when every car had rake because we didn't know any better and were too broke to give a damn

I'm with Ogre. A arms should be level at hiway driving. Dropped spindles are used to do these and be able to drop to the floor when pull into a cruise event. and the same goes for the rear long bars should be level as well.

Re: Chassis set up questions

when I did my setup I took the wheels off and lowered it til I got it were I wanted it then measured the 4 corners of the frame at the bumper bolt hole, floor to bottom of frame

Re: Chassis set up questions

1) is there any reason not to use drop spindles to lower the front end? No reason not to... even with air in the bags going down the road the A arms will be level. They are not much more $$$
2) is there a specific spindle that you would recommend? Many out there to choose from ...shop around for a good deal
3) do you recommend setting up the frame with a rake? Personal opinion. I like 1"
4) am I on the right track to achieve the low stance with a good ride?
Yes but remember where you weld the clip on will determine much of this...the higher the clip the lower the ride with out using bags

Extended shackles, coil insert/compressors were cheaper and faster than modifying body work! Heres a 69 Nova we raced in the day. Sedan, 307 emblems, we made a lot of money off that car.
