Re: how to change a passenger side airbag
to the board!
If you don't have a copy of LMC's (www.lmctruck.com) catalog, you should get one. Download it to your desktop and you'll have it for reference. They have decent line drawings that remind me of the Mitchell Crash Book drawings. What about a copy of Chilton's or Haynes manuals? I prefer the Haynes, but Chilton's isn't bad. I guess the next question is why you have to change it....but I assume an accident was the answer. There is a passenger side air bag eliminator kit available from several vendors. But, one more source for parts is www.latemodelrestoration.com.

Re: how to change a passenger side airbag
Ive only replaced a couple several years ago but if memory serves me correctly the dash has to nearly be removed I could be wrong I have done lots of airbag replacements. Make sure you have the battery unhooked and you may also need to replace your airbag controller module and crash sensors on the front of the vehicle. If you decide to get a used one which I wouldnt do, you will need to make sure its out of a vehcile just like yours and the bags havent been deployed in it or you are just wasting your time. And also as long as the airbag light remains on in the dash your airbags will not work! So I would suggest getting your hands on a service manual if possible.

Re: how to change a passenger side airbag
I'm still curious as to why it needs to be replaced and collision damage is the only thing I can come up with. For the passenger side, I'd seriously consider not replacing it.

Re: how to change a passenger side airbag
Look for a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck from 97-00. They didn't have airbags. They had a storage pocket instead.
The local salvage yard would be your best bet. |

^ This. But make note, as S_Trucker said, to look for a '97-'00. '95-'96 dashes didn't have the passenger airbag. |
